This is the first time I have seen a Bonowi on eBay. Does anyone know more about them? I have been hearing rumors about these for a long time. They really look unique.

for the first time they where seen on the european convention in antwerp
andy has some with him and they where for sale
i think lars get one
thet where very expensive

but they are real nice to see
and they have a very smooth action

Hi,

yes, those are indeed something long anticipated. Years ago (January 2004) a prototype was shown on german television, then for years nothing happened - shops listed the cuff as "available soon" since around 2005. In 2008 a different version from that shown in TV was exhebited at a german security show:

But it still was not available until very recently a few real functioning versions were sent to some special police units and some police supply dealers, which are the same as seen in Antwerp and now on ebay. They are very similar to the prototypes shown in 2008, but for example the very unique bow differs in details:

Still no shop really ships them and it's said that Bonowi still waits for a large order from some agency before they start the real mass production...

that guy is fishing people. Look at the 5 bid retractions. He is tryin to drive the price up. I for one will not play his game. I'm not bidding on these now and i was prepared to drop a 350 dollar bid in the final minute. His loss, Play fair or stay home!!!!

I got a pair of these cuffs today and find them unbelievably well built.
There are no rivets anywhere on the cuff body with the exception of the one at the hinge.
I believe they were made with tabs that interlock the 2 halves together and are secured by the one rivet.
A very interesting design.
I was under the impression that these were serial numbered.
Mine do not seem to have any but they are dated with the month and year of manufacture.
Does anyone have a pair with serial numbers?
On second look, I noticed that there is a numbering sequence on the bottom line of the etched printing and it reads: XXXX-K (I substituted the "X"'s for the actual numbers as I realize that these are restricted items Maybe this is the serial number.
Very nice cuff. Glad that I was able to get a pair!

Hello,
i have also both models (hinged and chain) and i have made a cutoff cuff. At the handcuff convention in Antwerp i have showed a open cuff (it was the opened, not already finished cutoff). Both parts of the lock case are connected ba 11 bolts and corresponding holes and are clued together. Exept for the hinge, this is a counter sunk screw, clued in the thread and grinded to an even surface.

To disassemble you must drill the head of screw with a 6mm drill until it falls out, at the lock you can insert an old knifeto separate halves some 1/10mm, then you can separate it more by screwdrivers of increasing sizes until halves are separated. It is difficult to do and impossible without tools when cuffs are "on hand".

My cuffs are labeld (both cuffs the same)
"BONOWI"
"TRILOCK mm/yy"
"nnnn-K" (chain version, "K" means german "Kette") or "nnnn-S" (hinged version, "S" means german "Scharnier")

mm is month, jj is year (last two digits) and nnnn is serial number. We do not know, if serial number startsagain with a new month or not.

Locks are pretty secure, much more than standard cuffs, but it is possible to pick them too. In a first test i needed about 7 minutes to open both doublelocked cuffs "onhand", if i had the right shim, it would be faster. My shim was too narrov and opened just two of three pawls, so i had to pick the third. It is more difficult to open the doublelock, it has 3 spring sheets that catch behind an edge inside lock case, they have to be pushed down while doublelock is moved to the side, all three spring sheets at the same time.

Pictures of mechanism will come later when cuffs are selling in greater units.

Hi at all,

to my knowledge no patent concerning the actual production-model of the Trilock handcuff is yet published.
Nevertheless, the gluing of the two parts is covered by the German 'Geschmacksmuster' DE 202008000332 U1, dating the 20th May 2008.

In the German database

more patents of the inventors 'Wolfgang Bopp' and 'Holger Labes' are published. Even some designs for the differently shaped prototype of the TRIOCK handcuffs who never went into production.

I just noticed something about the cuffs that was not apparent before.
The 5 square cutouts in the bow (to minimize weight?) vary in depth.
The square closest to the hinge is barely cut into the bow and the next 4 are cut deeper and deeper as they get closer to the working end of the bow.
The first one is about 10 thousandths of an inch deep and the last one is about 60 thousandths.
Everything about these cuffs is unusual.
I dont think this tooling reduces the weight by very much.

Hello,
the bows are not cast like the lock cases, the holes are grinded. It seems to be just a design feature, i don't believe that this is for weight reducing. Cuffs weight is about 500g (more than 1 lbs), that is unusual heavy.

Maybe that bows of future cuffs will be cast and it is possible that the holes will look like different. The prototype last year has little different bows, i have seen pictures and the holes looks different and have equal depth.
