Hi Fellow Handcuff Collectors and Enthusiasts,

At long last, I have completed "The Big Book of U.S. Handcuff Patents", a comprehensive chronological compilation of handcuff, manacle, and shackle patents from 1860 through 2007 outlining the history of restraint design in the U.S. It is a fully indexed, 1089 page 2 volume set containing 218 full patents along with photos and histories. Joe has done a fantastic job of putting together the patent information in a usable, readable format. I have a lot of the patent material in single sheet form when I was helping Don Stewart with his book. This took many weeks at several patent library's going through records and film with a printout fee of 20 to 25 cents per sheet. With today's computers the patents are available if you know the correct information to find the patent.

This work is massive with full-sized pages and good binding. Along with the patent drawings, Joe has inserted several pictures of the actual cuff so you can compare the patent drawings with the cuff. In these two volumes you have all the basic reference material on American cuffs and nippers in easy to use format.

I highly recommend these volumes to any collector and at this price it is a bargain.

Michael/Andy,

The lowest price I have been able to find to ship them to Germany or England has been $43.75 from the US Post Office. I need to fix the link on the web site. It only works for US orders. Until I can fix it, email me if you'd like to order a set.

Now there's some "out of the box thinking" - or rather "in the box" in this case. I know I can ship 2 sets for the same price. I may be able to squeeze in a third set, but it will be close to the weight limit.

Hello,
it is possible to make a bulk order: there is organized another bulk order to germany via a person in USA, it is possible to add the books to this order. So i can order all books for germany, they will be send to the person in USA (book + shipping $69), then all together will be send to germany (ca. $4 per pound, i think ca. $3-5 per person depending on weight of books). There will be no costoms (for books), but 19% tax (this you have also to pay when ordered directly) and about 5Euros shipping cost inside germany (Hermes, DHL will be 6.90Euros). But it is possible that shipping to germany will be delayed some weeks, it will wait until all other orders from USA are complete.

I got my US Handcuff Patent Book's (it comes in two large volumes). It is absolutely outstanding!!!! It is indexed with great photos and more patents then I knew existed. Very well done. Handcuff collectors owe you one Joe. Thanks

The parcel containing two copies of your book arrived here yesterday. Well done it is quite amazing, glad that you managed to get the two sets posted for the same price of one to England.
I would say that for any serious collector it is a must have. Many years ago when I lived in London I spent hours at the Patent Office and collated all the British Handcuff and restraint Patents - how do you fancy a new project to bring out a book on European Patents???
Once again thanks and all your hours of research has been well worth it.

This is a really nice addition to the reference library of every handcuff collector. Joe has done an amazing amount of work putting all of the patent literature together in one place.

It is of course interesting to read the original patents of the cuffs that we all know, but it is even more interesting to read about the cuffs that were never made. Or perhaps they were and we just have not found them yet.

Way to go Joe.
