So, I don't get it!

New York, Arizona, and of course LA get their books in the mail timely but here in San Diego, it takes more than a few extra days to get the book delivered.
Can't wait! Maybe on Monday!

Some times I wished I lived in the Yucatán Peninsula! I could already be at the beach reading The Key!

My hats off to you! Thank you so much for delivering to so many Houdini fans such a brilliantly researched
and fantastic book! I have not been able to put it down since I got it. I've collected Houdini for nearly 30 years
and I've never seen many of the photos, clippings, etc... in the book. EVERY fan of Houdini and EVERY person
interested in Houdini should own this valuable resource. Who needs to research Harry, it's all here.
Again, congratulations on a wonderful book, and thanks for sharing! To those still waiting, believe me that it
is worth the wait.

Even Minnesota gets their mail from LA faster than San Diego does.

I will get every book that has been ordered in the mail by Saturday.
That means that even Griffin and Gunnarson, who played a game of "chicken" (a la James Dean & Corey Allen in Rebel Without a Cause) with the pre-publication price for months and were the very last two to get the pre-publication price (I won't say who won the game of "chicken"), even they will get their books soon.
Because I have persisted in selling one to a customer, none to speculators, and I have only sold them to those people who are really interested in the subject, I have a few left.

Now that I have had some time to really study the book, I am even more excited about it. It is just full of interesting new things that I have not seen before. I have never been a Houdini expert, but I have always been interested. This new book really does have things in it that the 500 previous books about Houdini have lacked.

As of today, every copy of my book, Houdini--the Key, that was ordered and paid for has been sent. Even Griffin's and Gunnarson's.
Despite the fact that it is a limited edition (278 copies), I still have books left, and at least some of the people who are on the list to buy the book, but haven't paid, may choose to drop off the list, so those numbers will become available.
If there is a collector's item among the 278 books, it is book number one, which I am going to auction on ebay for charity.
More to come on that.

Johnny Depp says he's Houdini's reincarnation; Woody Allen, I'm told, has a framed Houdini letter in his office; Teller is on the list to buy my book, but, he's been very busy putting on the biggest off-Broadway hit in years with Todd Robbins; David Copperfield is also on the list, also very busy.
Pat Croce bought Houdini Unlocked from me, but, I've lost touch with him since. Of the bunch of them, only Teller may have a sense of what the book is.
When I was writing the book, Dave Carradine stayed at my house for a few days. This was a couple of weeks before his death. I was working on the book day and night. One evening, I looked up from my computer and said, "You know why I'm writing this book?--'Cause I'm the only one in the world who can."
By the time it was over and I had the book in my hands, three years had gone by. Carradine was dead. Dave Stevens, who did the drawing of me that's on the last page, the artist who created the Rocketeer and who ignited the Bettie Page revival, had died at 52 of lukemia.
The book was my Hercules Flying Boat. I didn't want it to be a spruce goose.
Anyhow, from what people have told me, my goose flew as well as Howard's did.
The bottom line is that this auction for Houdini--the Key # 1 is to benefit a terrific Veteran's non-profit service organization which helps veterans and the Veterans Administration resolve cases. This is at no cost to the veterans. They get along on grants, donations, and fundraisers--and I'm really hoping to raise some money for them. The buyer will get a receipt which qualifies for a tax deduction.
I need rich, loosefisted, Houdini fans. I need to let Johnny and Woody and Pat know about this and i have no idea how to do it.

I am one of the few people, who liked the Rocketeer movie.
In one of the Rocketeer comics, there is a magician based on Pat Culliton who performs an escape - what a great acknowledgment from Dave.

I am still hearing from people who are particularly interested in the subjects of Houdini, handcuffs, escapes and magic who want the book.
Right now, because I didn't sell to speculators who hoped to created an instant price-gouging rare book by buying multiple copies and sitting on them, I still have the book to sell them--for its retail price.
Once Houdini--the Key # 1 goes on ebay, the book will sell out quickly. Up until now, I haven't sold one book to anyone who is does not enjoy one or more of the interests I mentioned.
For thirteen years, I had to explain to people I didn't have any more sets of Houdini Unlocked. These were people who were really interested in the subject. To their disappointment, I had to tell them I wasn't going to reprint the set. I would tell them I was working on a rewrite, concentrating on Houdini's professional secrets.
Meanwhile, the speculators were taking them for whatever they could.
There were a couple of auctions that should have been investigated by law enforcement.
It's too soon to start telling people I haven't got the book.
I do have books left to sell. It's a relatively high-priced book, but, I'm not gouging anyone.
I'll keep it off ebay for now.

If people want the book then they need to step up and pay for the book. It would be a shame if there are some who want it but can't get it because of some who still have not paid for what they requested. No excuse for that no matter how busy you are! Only takes a few moments to send payment. I'd send out a memo and make it clear that if you don't pay for the book by this date you will be removed from the list.

I received my copy of the book a few weeks ago and naturally glanced at all the pictures first. Not unlike receiving a new issue of Playboy Magazine
I eventually got down to reading the articles/content and was pleasantly surprised to see my name and pictures of my hand on Page 55.
I went up to the Culliton Estate to learn the secret of the Metamorphosis Trunk trick a few years ago and presented Pat a key that operated one of the locks on the trunk.
I was witness to an importance piece of history and genius manufacturing that day.
I am happy that an awesome day for me is forever captured on page 55.

Like Mark, I treated it like a Playboy issue and thumbed through to the photos first. I really admire the book as a whole - a bookbinders artwork result on top of the content, which is also impressive. I was astounded to find that Cunning and Houdini eventually got along, considering the blistering that Rubini got when he visited Cunning in later years and made the mistake of praising Houdini.
