Sizes of Darby Cuffs
We have discussed the smallest cuffs before, the smallest known standard English cuffs (from Chis Gower's collection) have an inside height of about 48mm or so, 1.9 inches.

To designate the largest Darby handcuff takes a bit a definition, since if you get too big you just call it a leg iron.
But the largest one in my collection that I would call a handcuff is 70mm or about 2.75 inches.
Keys
The keys of all the 19th century Darby cuffs are similar, but not identical. The variations within a company are perhaps just a great as the differences between companies. So Froggatt cuffs can in general be opened with a Hiatt key. But in all cases you find that some keys simply fit better. That is a good reason for the matched numbering of cuffs and keys.
But there are all sorts of variations of course. One of my favorites is a Hiatt combination with one handcuff and one leg iron. One key opens them both, it is bigger than a normal handcuff key, but small than a normal leg iron key. Standard handcuff keys are too small for the single handcuff, standard leg iron keys are too big for the single leg iron.
