Strange Item with spikes?

Any ideas what this might be? The spikes are about 3 3/4 inch long and very sharp. The diameter is 6 inches at the widest point. Hard to imagine it's use on man or beast.

A calf weaner.

It is used to wean calves off the mother cow.

Such things are often falsely promoted as ancient torture instruments.

With a torture instrument the spikes would be on the inside, lol.

Were also made to use as collars for hunting dogs that took down bears and wild boars and smaller versions of things like this were affixed to boots for climbing trees and posts.

Thanks Steve. Ian guessed it was for an animal as well. I suspect for a large hunting dog would be the best application. I think even minor contact with the spikes would inflict quite a wound so proctecting a hunting dog makes perfect sense.

Few people realize that you're just about 500 times more likely to have some farming tool than anything related to medieval justice. People misjudge stuff all the time on ebay.

I think it's a calf weaner.

If it were a dog collar, it would be circular or have evidence of a hinge and latch. I can't see it as a climbing device, as there is no easy way to keep it from twisting off.
