#1Here are some interesting uses of shackles in the 1890s from a shameful period in North Western Australia.
They appear to be End Locks used on a transport chain to shackle prisoners by the neck. A method used on slaves and prisoners for centuries. There appear to be round rings in the chain, probably 45 - 50 cm apart with longer interval between. The 45 cm being enough to go around the neck and then padlocked. The distance between giving enough person room to walk.
The other Pic with the Policeman and his camel show a darby used from wrist to neckchain leaving one arm free.
