Hi,

I would like to start a survey on the topic of design.
Collectors often start out with a random pair of handcuffs,
get interested and add those they like best and
finally they buy more and more just to make their collection more complete,
but they do not like these additional cuffs that much ...

Price and beauty do not go hand in hand most of the time.
I do not ask you to name the most precious cuffs here,
but to tell us which ones you like best - the most beautiful handcuffs -

According to my opinion, the Marlin Daley handcuffs are most "designed" and beautiful
handcuffs ever made. I fell in love with them the first time I saw them.

When it comes to beauty, I am going to have to say that a nice pair of polished nickle plated Stotz handcuffs are the most beautiful to me....even though they are not my favorite cuffs in the world. I also think that a nice pair of nickle plated polished H&R leg irons are real pretty too. I am not taking anything away from the Marlins mentioned earlier but these other two are prettier to me.

If the US made owning cuffs a crime tomorrow - and I had to give up my collection - a nice Bean Cobb will be put in a time capsule (along with a dessicant pack) and burried in my backyard for future enjoyment. Yeah, it's a fairly common cuff, but I feel it exemplefies a period in time in which quality & care went into a product - even if that product was intended for a prisoner's wrists.

Cummings cuff, to me a work of art as well as a functioning device. Like Lars, I also like the Marlin bottleneck cuff.

The Kimball. A very elegant design, without sacrificing practicality. It has always struck me as having an organic, Art Nouveau appearance, even though it actually pre-dates that era by decades.

Looks like the Marlin Daleys are a clear winner so far in the beauty stakes. Is that because the bottlenecks actually look more likes women's legs - or is it just me.

Hello¡¡¡

In spite of being a very modern handcuff, I do like the design of the Star handcuffs.
They are of very strong construction, heavy and with a very particular shape of the lock case. Only one chain link between cuffs and quite narrow to fit the smallest wrists.
Perhaps thats the reason why they look so goog on ladies´ wrists

I have to agree with Bruce here. Although the Marlin Daley is a beautiful streamlined cuff, my favourite is the Cumming.

Okay, I will also agree with the Cumming being a beautiful cuff. I wanted to put up some photos of my picks but I do not own either one and I do not want to get anyone's panties in a bunch for posting pics that are not mine so I found a solution. This pair of Froggatt cuffs is my favorite . I just really like them .





I sold my other Froggatt cuffs , including the small size pair , but this pair is still my favorite .

Other cuffs I like include my modern Ralkem Alpha Pro cuffs .

hi ! all ... all have nice selections, but you are all wrong -- just kidding.... the PALMER is the most beautiful handcuff as it has TWO things going for it... ODD LOOKING BEAUTY and you can take it apart & it is STILL FULLY functional as one cuff can STILL be used by using the PALMER chain...... can you name any other cuff that is as nice looking that has that capablility ???? just my thought... joe

no one has mentioned the the Hiatt 1960 model, taking the "swinging (through) sixties" to a new extreme?...nice shape, but a bit cheap in construction and finish. These are the first cuffs i saw as a kid, and even then i knew i had to have some one day, i now have several, this collecting lark is addictive!.

With all the votes for the Marlins we need to break it up into which of the three models which are, let's face it, different. Myself, I'll go with the Cavenay instead.

Still, we should not forget the French "Bedroom" Leg Irons. The chain alone must win some prize.

Having to choose only one amongst a plethora of aesthetically pleasing cuffs, I'll cast my vote for the chunky, archaic plated Bean Prison model.

I have a few. A pair of Darbies - my first "antique" cuff. Standard Peerless 300's - they are so classic looking. SAF-LOK - very solid with great locking mechanism. Bean Prison - solid with most satisfying weight and balance.

their beautiful symmetry beats all other cuffs

Peerless should have stopped the development then
the 400s do not have the well rounded edges
the 500s do not have the cool swivel
and the look of the 700s is disturbed by ugly rivets,
that look like acne-spots in a beautiful face

Greetings Yossie and MacGyver!

The timeless beauty of the classic Peerless barrel key handcuffs is what got me started back in the day.

I also prefer the classic shaped swivels, and feel that inserting spun rivets into the pivot and lock-case is akin to applying spray-paint to the Mona Lisa.

For a while Peerless offered classic filed rivets as an alternative to their 700 model, though has since discontinued them altogether, presumably due to cost constraints.

Fortunately, new old stock 10oz. and M-300 sets still turn up on the bay pretty regularly.

Get 'em while ya can...

I have to say the Lorey Handcuff.

I was lucky enough to have seen and hold the one that John Bushey restored and published the information in book form and on this Forum. The quality of design, workmanship and uniqueness makes this cuff a wonder.
