Did anyone catch the episode of Auctioneer$ with with San Quentin Death Row lock? It looked-like it was made by the same guys that make the phoney SQ cuffs. Needless to say, it sold for $700+ to some poor Schnook.

Of the old style padlocks, cuffs, etc, made of iron and bearing a brass tag with any stamping of import are fakes.

In all prisons that perform capital punishments all "Death Row" property is usually marked with a zoning or range code.

i.e. Seg. Unit 14, etc.

I have yet to see any authentic capital punishment item come out of any prison that was stamped, engraved, senticled, etc, "Death Row."

I would think that would simply scream "FAKE".

Death Row is a term that for the most part is slang for the section of a prison that houses those convicted and sentenced for death or lifetime incarceration.
As this is a term never officially used by a penetentiary, they would never, ever use such verbage nor actually stamp or engrave their equipment with such markings.
ONLY a fake item would contain such wording.

Sadly a lot of people will see the locks on ebay and think they are the real deal at a great price.

To know that San Quentin Prison, which currently houses 670 inmates currently sentenced to death, is one of the very few prisons in the USA to actually denote "Death Row" by an actual sign above the entrance to this area of the prison.

They call it "Condemned Row" and I have provided an actual picture of that very entrance and sign below.

P.S. They are currently in the process of constructing a new wing for condemned prisoners and I imagine this sign will not figure in the new area once opened.

I am quite confident that the door to the new wing will be secured with a brass padlock and they will sell souvenir padlocks at the prison gift shop too.
