#1Hi, Im looking for some information on some dates regarding Smith & Wesson handcuff production.
(1) S&W Hinged Cuffs
Unfortunately, I dont have this book in front of me but I believe that in J. Supica and R. Nahas, Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (3rd ed.; Gun Digest, 2007) it is stated that the first hinged handcuffs were introduced in 1969. I think they identified it as the Model 64. Should this read Model 94 which was the high security handcuff and not a hinged handcuff? When did S&W produce its first hinged handcuff? Was it the short-lived Model 200/210 in 1990? When was the Model 300 first introduced? Im thinking it was after the M200, so between 1991-1996. I know it was available in 1996 as that is when I bought my first pair. Does anyone have a more precise date for the production of the Model 300?
(2) First pair of handcuffs produced at the Houlton, ME plant.
According to an official press release statement by Smith & Wesson (Oct 5, 2006), Since starting production of handcuffs in Houlton, Maine in 1982, the Smith & Wesson facility has produced of over 5,000,000 handcuffs... However, according to another official press release by S&W (Mar 18, 2009), .....after 30 years of manufacturing high quality handcuff restraints at its facility in Houlton, Maine, the company recently produced its six millionth pair of handcuffs. This latest statement suggests that the first pair of handcuffs produced in Houlton was in 1979. So my question is, when did the Houlton plant actually produce its first pair of handcuffs?

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition, stating Model 44 maximum security hinged model cuffs, introduced in 1969, I am sure is a misprint. They were refering to the model 94 maximum security handcuff introduced in 1969 which are not hinged, but chain linked.
The model 200 & 210 were the first hinged cuff introduced by Smith & Wesson in 1990. I have a May 1, 1990 product brochure where they are listed. They are still listed in the February 1, 1991 product brochure. The next product brochure I have is May 6, 1991 and no hinged cuffs are listed. The next product brochure I have is November 20, 1991 and they list the model 300 hinged handcuffs.
The information I have is that the Houlton Maine plant started manufacturing it's handcuffs in 1979. The first pair I have that are marked Houlton, ME. are the model 100 stamped M-100. I have model 100's marked Pat's Pending with the double lock slot on the keyway side only and Pat's Pending with double lock slot on front and back of the lock box, both marked with Springfield, Mass.
My collection of product brochures have many missing. I have a May 1977 that list models 90, 91, 926, 938 & 94. The next one I have is June 1984 which list models 100, 103, 104 & restrait chains 1800, 1810, 1820 & 1830 stating that S&W handcuffs are manufactured in Houlton, Maine. I have seen a letter dated 1983 with a Smith & Wesson letterhead which indicated that the model 94 was the completion of their current line of handcuffs and lasted until the late 1970's when a new line of handcuffs was introduced.

One more question, do you have any product brochures from 1985 or 1986? I've heard that the S&W Model 1900 Leg Irons came out a few years after the M-100 (1983), were they available as early as 1985 (and also, I'm assuming, the M-110 'Extra Large' Cuffs)?

I do not have 1985 - 1989 brochures. They are not in the 1984 brochure. 1990 has the 110 large size and the 1900 leg irons, so they were between 1985 & 1990.
