Hi LK, Nice to know that one person cares.
I am fine, high and dry so to speak but yesterday and today rain is wide spread in my state of Victoria and some parts have flooded.
Queensland (Croc hunter territory) is the worst. 75% of the state has been hit or still under water (an area bigger than Texas, or France and Germany combined.
New South Wales has parts flooded and will get lots of the water from Queensland in the next few weeks.

Dead gods can't stop floods

WHETHER or not scientists can prove the Queensland floods are directly linked to climate change, this should be an environmental wake-up call.

In ages past, environmental catastrophes were considered deified retribution for human misdemeanours.

Tying environmental disasters to the displeasure of the gods was a way to ensure religious compliance and the importance of prayer and ritual.

The rise of scientific thought over the past four centuries has done away with the mythological tyrants of catastrophe, replacing them with clear and rational explanations.

Although we have abandoned the former environmental mythology, we are not listening to its modern replacement. Perhaps an updated mythology might be useful.

The past two years in eastern Australia has seen exceptional weather phenomena. Now, Queensland and northern NSW are being inundated by what are likely to be our worst floods.

You do not need a scientific degree or a policy adviser to tell you what is common sense: our weather is more extreme, more often, than it has ever been.

Our actions affect the natural world. We must join the dots from our collective and individual actions to our environmental catastrophes.

Glad you are away from the worst of it Ian.

I have friends in Mackay & they got it bad today. Yasi has past now & hopefully that will be the end of it. You guys have had it bad these last few months & I hope you get back to normal soon.

Hi, Australia is being hit by mother nature like never before. I am well and safe but North Queensland had cyclone Yasi rip through the top end yesterday. (no deaths, no injuries)
Google cyclone Yasi for more info and video. It was as big as Katrina but the coast up there is not as populated. 90 percent of some towns destroyed.
No word yet on how the Great barrier reef did, I am sure it will look different now.
Today or tomorrow, storms in the tail of the cyclone may bring up to 8 inches of rain to Victoria, one quarter of which is already flooded from two weeks ago and lots of areas still under water.
From what I see on the TV news, there is similar wild weather in the north hemisphere. The US has storms and very cold (at least it's still in the 90's F here.)

Hi Guenter, you are absolutely right, the government in power at the time was Liberal and they didnt believe that Global warming was happening. They are happy to pray to their invisible gods but not believe science. When world population starts killing for the last mouthful of food and drink of water, the only thing I can do is say I told you so Not much of a consultation price.

so lets hope that these natural disasters at least help to open the eyes of everybody who still believes global warming and all its aftermaths being a myth.

I keep my fingers crossed for your beautiful country that now the peak of natures wrath is reached. I want to see I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! again next year!

Unfortunately one 23 YO died of asphyxiation in the cyclone Yasi. He hunkered down in a room next to his generator and was overcome by the fumes.
Where I live is over two thousand mile away but as predicted, the tail of the cyclone (still in land) has brought very heavy and constant rain. In 12 hours I have recorded over 4 inches.
On the good still, its still warm enough to be in short and bare feet.
