There is so much talk about Bean Cobb Leg Irons in my neck of the woods, so I am eyeballing this item on eBay to see what it fetches.
I wonder if it will come close to the $2,200 that some people believe it will.
Currently, it has been bid up to $137.50 with 5 bids. There is 8 days and 7 hours left in the auction at the time of writing. (Jan 31, 201115:40:45 PST)
It appears to be quite nice with a few spots of plating loss. An original key is supplied in the deal. I would rate this as an 8 or 8+. Does anyone differ in opinion?

Is there more talk about that value in the divorce? Does the wife have a new lawyer yet? Hopefully the new one will have a better grasp on the facts.

No, not much going on with all that.
I just found this auction and figured that I would highlight this WHEN they claim that it is worth much more as they have done in the past. Just maybe, with my ongoing cynicism, they will also watch this auction and note the previous blogs about this cuff and realize that it is a fairly common cuff and just get over it. If not, maybe this cuff should be appraised by weight..........in carats!

Assuming that a carat is a unit of measure calculated directly by weight, are there any gemologists or mathematicians that can tell me how many carats one of these Bean Cobb Leg Irons would come in at?

Amazing Michael just picked one up recently. Was this the one nestled in with the crown jewels in the Tower of London?

One carat weighs 200 milligrams. That would make a pair of Bean Cobb leg irons weigh exactly lots and lots of carats.

Here is a photographic likeness, or pitcher, of me.

I turned 58 earlier this month, once again progressing chronologically in the wrong direction.

Thank you for a favourable comparison to Mark Twain. He and I have some things in common aside from -- and actually more important than -- the English language. Twain was a fervent anti-vivisectionist and a great lover of cats, about whom he wrote, "If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat."

I am not far behind you....just about a year and a half.
You should try smiling in front of the camera. Otherwise it looks like it was taken by the booking clerk at the Broward County Detention Facility.

I would have never imagined Twain as a fervent anti-vivisectionist........... Excuse me while I Google that word.
I agree that the cat is probably G*ds most perfect creature.......except for the hair ball anomaly.

Vivisection happened without aesthetics as dogs and cats didnt have a soul (according to Christian doctrine) and therefore didnt experience pain.
Cut from throat to pelvis and laid open while fully awake.
It only stopped in the late 1950s.
I like Twain more, now I know that. Thanks Jack , very informative as always.

Why would anyone do this? Was this a common thing?
I have never heard of this before. I know about people being drawn and quartered. Very sad what man can do to one another or animals.

Today, I was changing locks in a foreclosure house and found a dead and petrified cat in one of the bedrooms. I thinks some dirt bags moved into this vacant house for a while and eventually took off for some reason. This abandoned cat probably went for weeks without food or water and died while leaning up against the wall. I was surprised that no bugs got to him.
Mark Twain was right about mankind and cats!

The word is anaesthetics; the American spelling is or anesthetics.

So I revisited my account of the Radner auction which appears in this website and realized that I posted the price for item # 81, a set of Bean Cobb leg Irons. They sold for $3,700 during the auction

I think this is where my bride and her #*@(&% lawyer got the idea that these cuffs were worth so much. They are so fixated on this.

The item posted above should prove what they are really worth. Currently they are at $172.49 with 9 bids.
Minus the cost of inflation, I highly doubt that ANY Bean Cobb cuff will EVER sell for $3,700 during the next 100 or so years.
I hope now they will "GET OVER IT!"

I found this offering from GoldenZone. These Bean Cobb Leg Irons may not sell for as much as the above pair due to condition.
I think most of us purchased at least 1 item from GoldenZone, yet I do not know who he is. He almost always includes nice detailed information in his listings, so I know he is knowledgeable about cuffs. I am not sure if he is a contributor here or not.
Currently, these have 2 bids and just over 2 days left in his auction. They are priced at $136.67 until more bids come in.

This posting shall serve as documentation so that my nuptial nudnik and her liar...oops, I mean, LAWYER, will also come to realize that Bean Cobb Leg Irons are just regular items and that collections from the entry level to the advanced, contain one.

Seth and Sean,
I am glad that you are entertained when visiting this site. I do not recall seeing any of your other posts.
This site greatly enhances the cuff collection hobby and has allowed for many international friendships. My recent trip to Europe would have been far less memorable without the friends I made here.
I have never met Jack and I am looking forward to the day when that is possible. We have enjoyed a great many repartees over the years while others also jumped in.
I hope you come back and witness my catching another one of Jack's witticisms.....and throwing it right back!

Let it be known that the first pair of Bean Cobb Leg irons sold today.
I may call them exhibit A.
They did not sell for anywhere near $3,700 but they did sell for a higher than the normal amount. About 10 times less than what my opposition thinks they are worth.
With 20 bids, they did sell for $367.95 US Dollars.
I will report the closing price on the pair offered by GoldenZone shortly.

This pair of Bean Cobb Leg Irons had 5 bidders and sold for $110, recently
While not as minty as the previous one, these cuffs are nowhere near the value that (the now removed from the case) "attorney" hasso attested to.

I believe these average condition cuffs sold for their true price.

Yes, it would.
That is why I say, I wish I saw the Indy cuffs and I would have given them to her.
I may buy some of the Tower models and also give them to her so a lenghty litigation can be avoided.
