Hi Joe

The Roundup Nipper is a rare one. You sold your other one to me, back in that old fashioned era when we used to correspond via such ancient devices as the US mail and the telephone.

The nipper was patented by William Werd who was from Montana, so I am sure the Mont. abbreviation does stand for Montana. I have always thought that the Round Up name was one of the best handcuff names ever used.

The nipper is not just rare, it is also somewhat unknown because the patent was not classified as a handcuff in the US patent listing. Thus the standard handcuff patent lists do not include it. The reason is due to the inventor who considers his invention to be a new and useful Improvement in Tongs. The patent examiner thus classified the patent as a tong, not a handcuff. Here is the text from the opening of the patent, #877389.

"Be it known that I, William E. Werd, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Deer Lodge, in the county of Powell and 5 State of Montana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tongs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The purpose of the invention is to provide a tool handle adapted for use in connection with any type of gripping members, as for example, the confining members of handcuffs, the arms of ice tongs, the engaging arms of log dogs, etc."

So if any one want a rare one, this is it.

Joe
PS. Joe, I want a commission if the price goes over $1500.
