Could someone tell me the value of a set of original Lilly handcuffs? Do they come up for sale very often?

The value is in the eye of the buyer. I wouldn't pay more than a certain figure to which some would pay more. Can you define OFTEN?

This is what the bottom of the lock tube looks like. There is a lead plug in the hole. I also have a Big Cast Iron Key, which I have yet to locate.

For what it's worth, I've seen them sell for $1200-$1400. Occasionally a pair will sell for more, if you're lucky for less.
I bought a set belonging to Harry Houdini, with providance, and altered to be a "handcuff King Breaker" for only $1900 from
the Las Vegas Great Houdini Auction. The other two pair at that auction went for about $2000. But, those were Houdini's!
That adds a lot of value if the providance is good. I also know people who would pay higher than the price listed above because they

The key doesn't look like anything I've seen posted here. Its a very heavy cast iron key about 4 inches wide and 4 inches high.

It has some rust and lots of patina. It really works Great!

Antique "HEART" keys have been around for a long time. They date back to the 16th century. No surprise here.

Well...

I'm not sure if the casting on the top of the key is intended to be a heart or just a decoration. Anyway ....... seems to me that what I've seen on the various forums is that every set of Lilly handcuffs has a different key ... and many of those sopposed "original keys" look like "gas valve" or "water valve" shut-off keys. This key seems to have been cast, and then machined to fit the inside hole diameter of the Lilly handcuff lock tube.

This is the same way cast iron pieces are made today. They are cast and then machined only in the critical areas.

Anyway ... this is the key that's been with my Lilly handcuffs for a long time. Maybe some day someone we will find a photo of an original key with the cuffs.

okay Buck Stix, you are busted!!! Yesterday when I was reading the forum on different computer there was something fishy about the picture. Today when I have had a chance to take a much closer look at the pictures about the key and Payne. You edited the picture and added the key as there is a brown shadow and you almost got the proportions correct. I also found on the internet the original photograph and it does not show the key. I can't say what you have done creates any trust by doing that.

I was correct in my feeling that somthing WAS NOT exactly kosher with Buck Stx

After attempting to get a selling price from this individual I have come to believe his initals are just that BS !!!

Funny thing is ... I've gotten 30+ emails discussing the purchase of my Lilly Handcuffs, but none from this "MICHAEL LEE" ...

Perhaps I'm correct in my feeling that somthing IS NOT exactly kosher with "MICHAEL LEE".

simply BS was infact asked what the price of the Lilly iron was, No answer was ever emailed ..Fact !

The key that BS found is in question...fact !

BS then posted a photo w/ a photoshopped key into a historic photo ( appeared funny ) all the same these sort of actions appear to be suspect

when all that was asked for was a simple price. appears to be a very simple question with a little research.

I traded e-mails back and forth with the "seller". Never got much on price other than what I offered and that someone had an outstanding offer of well over mine "because they were unmolested and uncleaned.". I recommended that he accept that offer as it would be difficult to find someone that would go any higher. If indeed they were sold I would guess that is to who. For etiquette reasons to both seller and buyer, should one exist, Ill skip stating the actual $ amount.
