Small Standard Handcuffs

With all the collectors here,
I think this could be the right place to find an answer to my question:

There are lots of handcuffs made around the world in a "standard" size
for example: Smith & Wesson 100 and 300 cuffs are standard size
and also Peerless 300, 400, 500 or 700

For bigger wrists there are Smith Wesson model 1 universal and Peerless hinged cuffs
available, but I do not know handcuffs for smaller wrists that look similar to Peerless 700
or S&W 100.
I know that the S&W 1 universal cuffs close both wider and a little bit smaller than the S&W 100,
but this is not what I am looking for, because this is no beautiful solution for small wrists.

Where can I find handcuffs that fit small wrists? (and look like a smaller version of standard cuffs)?

Now long discontinued, you can see find "American Handcuff Co. "Juvenile" handcuffs...specifically made for small wrists (the "bows" were extra-wide).

There are also optional retro-fit "Inserts" that are currently available --to DECREASE the size of modern standard handcuffs.

I think I know what you mean. Scaled smaller.

Best thing I can think of at the moment that looks like "regular" cuffs is an older model S&W 90. They are much smaller than the later model 90s which are in turn smaller than the 100s. Very "petite" compared to modern cuffs. They show up on the bay regularly.

The juvenile cuffs don't fit the bill - they are as "ugly" as the S&W 1 or the "handcuff helpers" that can be plugged on regular cuffs.

I hope I can find a pair on Ebay some day.
Do you have pictures that illustrate the difference in size (#90 vs. #100)?

S&W 90's are hardly "smaller." They just have a slightly shorter chain connecting the cuffs.

Anonymous seems to have a point:
a difference between 90s and 100s is hard to see ...

some facts would be helpful (inner width in centimeter of 90s and 100s)
but maybe there is a smaller model -

I should add... Peerless cuffs fall right into the range between the 90 and 100's for maximum length. And that is both 300 and 700 models (Don't make me take another pic

Honestly, the "smallest" cuff that I own are Hiatt's 2010 (Made in England). 'Safariland' now produces a version of these since Hiatt's is no more. They have a full size "cuffing area," but the lock body size and chain are kept to a minimum "length." Basically this means that your hands will be about half an inch or so closer together when you're taking that ride down to the station for 'questioning."

That's a later model 90 in those photos. The 1950s model 90s and model 91s were much smaller than those. Trust me, I have a pair of both and I'll try to snap a photo soon.

Here's 2 pics that show the differences. In the one pic is a "newer" model 90 with an older model 90. The other pic has the model 100, "newer" model 90, older model 90 and the older model 91. The older model 90 and 91 are actually a little different from each other. The 91 has a little shorter chain but the 90 has a smaller bow that you can probably see. The swivels are different as well.

That style of 90 is the only one I've seen with those shaped swivels and bow indentions that are not as centered.

Oh yeah, the Hiatts are smaller but the older model 90s are smaller still..

One more thing, the older model 90s are a little thinner as well.

I'd be tempted to bid on those ebay early model 90's, as they are in decent shape, but unfortunately they have been engraved.

I don't care how rare or valuable a cuff is deemed to be. If it is engraved, it has no value to me whatsoever.

Hello.

If you ned a handcuff to fit small wrists you should try the Star Handcuffs.

They are connected by a single chain link and have a special shape that makes them quite nice looking.
They are also very sturduy and the only drawback is that no double lock is available, but the springs are really heavy. I think they might even fit on children wrists

You may find them at Cuffsland or perhaps at Ebay Germany.

I was gonna mention the Star handcuffs as well. They are indeed very small and fairly wide and therefore comfortable as far as handcuffs go.

Yes, the Star HCs are about the smallest I've seen. Note that there were two versions ... The pic is of the flat key version (I believe it was sold as the "Chief of Police" model); the patrolman model used a barrel key (slightly smaller than a standard HC key). Both were relatively well made, but the action can be stiff because of a roller wheel used to prevent shimming. I believe Anhua used to sell a small standard HC; also a H&R clone in a small size. I don't see the small HCs on their website anymore. The small H&R was a bit smaller than the Star, but the form factor is not what I'd call "standard", and the quality is nowhere near H&R quality.

That's interesting. The eBay frame (lock case) has a diagonal cut at the bottom (on the swivel side) while mine is rounded. Also with mine the jaws have a rather pronounced concave radius that blends into the last ratchet so as to provide better purchase for the thumb when it is used to tighten the jaw. The stamp (engraving) is also different. The keyhole side simply has "STAR" on one cuff, then PATENTE No / 153,828 on the other; the back side has MADE IN SPAIN and nothing on the other.

I forgot to mention in the previous note that the jaw in the Chief of Police version is significantly thicker than in the patrolman version.

The smallest fully functioning police issue swing through cuff that I'm away of comes from Indonesia. I've shown my example along side a S&W 100 for comparison.





They were actual issue and are not toy cuffs. I don't think the pictures actually do a good job of showing their true size but it's definately noticable when you handle them.
