Leavenworth Prison Handcuffs

Hi all, I recently purchased a set of handcuffs that have a Leavenworth Federal Prison tag on them. I've read that there are fakes out there. These have the numbers 2 1/2 499 on them. They appear to be an old militery style handcuff that has the screw in/out lock o them. Are there any way to determine if they are real?

Hi Chris, please post some photos and we will be able to tell you for sure. I am not claiming to be psychic, but I predict that they are East Indian garbage (fakes) based on what you just described.

I'll agree with Michael. Without having seen them, I'll bet a beer they are Indian or Paki knockoffs. I can get them for about five bucks a pair, wholesale, without the brass tags. There's an outfit called Great Western Trading (No Internet nexus that I know of) that specializes in this kind of stuff.

They're probably worth on the order of twenty bucks retail. That's what the non-fakers like BudK are selling them for.

Hey guys, I would post some pics but I've done given them to a little boy who loves that kind of stuff. They are a real treasure to him. After I started looking closely to the details of the patina and the craftmanship, there's no way they could be real. I'm in the flea market business(junker) as a hobby. It's just another lesson learned. Anyway, I really enjoy looking around on this site. Totally cool stuff! If I stumble up on anymore handcuffs, perhaps some that are real, I'll post them here.

The fakes do serve a purpose sometimes....like in Chris' case. I would have been tickled pink if someone had given me a set of Indian Darbies when I was a kid. It is great to see someone helping our handcuff collecting community along.....we might just have a future handcuffs.org contributor because of these cuffs! =)
