Anyone know much about these? From what I've found, they've produced for sale three, four and six link cuffs at the factory using the standard two-link chain style, and not some add in "twist link" style chain found everywhere else.
These cuffs do appear on sites as being sold in both blued and as nickel plated models.
A recent check of the latest S&W catalogue indicates only the 4 link as still available. A further check indicates only the nickel plated versions are generally available to consumers.
Is S&W phasing these cuffs out just as silently as they brought them in?
According to the product brochures I have, in 2004 S&W added a note at the bottom of their product brochures which state, "Smith & Wesson can customize handcuffs to fit your agency's specifications. Whether you want a different chain length, mix-and-match cuffs, or special laser engraving, we're a one-stop shop for all you unique request."
If you had a big enough order and the extra funds to spend you could order any length chain you wanted acording to their statement.
The first brochure I have showing more than two links on a pair of handcuffs is their 2008 product brochure which shows a Model 100L (4 link chain). It could be ordered in nickel or blue. They were still shown in 2010 brochures.
I have a Model 100L, 4-link, blue & a Model 100P Long Chain, 10-link, nickel.
As of January of this year S&W has changed the way they manufacture their line oof handcuffs, so they might have discontinued other specialty orders also.

It will be interesting to see if their factory "Extra Link" versions simply quietly disappear over time, perhaps leaving a few oddball "rarities" of these cuffs floating around in the coming years.
