It looks like a good deal but it isn't. Chain link on handcuffs has been cut with boltcutters. One side of the leg irons drags to the point of making it nearly impossible to open. I bought them the first time around and had to be out the shipping to return them.

I took a look at there and noticed that he posted about 4 pictures and carefully concealed the cut link in all of them.
I sent him the following:

These look very nice (180689007425)
Are there any blemishes or imperfections?
If not, would you consider $275?

Thanks.

Lets see how honest this seller is.
If is says nothing about the cut link, it would be funny if some of us blast the guy with requests for better pictures or specific questions about the links.

Out of the gate, he looks like a crook, but lets see if he steps up to plate!

I Just didn't want anyone to buy this without knowing exactly what they are getting.

Blackburn,

It was good for you to post this here, as you probably saved one of us the hassle of receiving this item (at top dollar) and having to return it just like you did.
I usually give sellers the benefit of the doubt when they sell something and may not know much about the item they are selling....in this case, cuffs.
I seems apparent that he is hiding the fact that the chain was cut, especially when you went through the trouble to send it back and get your money refunded. He now knows that his item is defective even if was not obvious before he sold them to you.
I hate to see people taking advantage of honest people and decided to put him through my little test.
Maybe he will do the right thing, or not, maybe someone will tip him off.
Whatever he does, it probably won't involve shipping those cuffs to anyone here.

Hi, I emailed about the cuff and here's how it went.

Dear dkonrade7aql,

hello, I am interested in the old handcuff, how can you tell if it works without a key? It looks okay, is there anything that I need to be aware about? Is all the plating there or rust?

regards

Ian

Dear Ian,

When I took them to the locksmith he opened them, I have not opened them since. There is a little rust, they have never been cleaned up. very little rust. Thanks for looking

I think I seen these on eBay a while back for "buy it now" price of $550.00. If it is the same set, the pics were REALLY bad (barely showed the leg irons at all). The bottlenecks look nice and the chain link is repairable but Tower leg irons are always a gamble (Tower DLs have a high probability of not working). For the right price, this would be a good fixer-upper project. However, I would have to agree with the masses and say that the seller is probably a little bit shady.

Blackburn, thanks for the heads up.....this is good networking! Cuff collectors unite! LOL!

Ian, His response to you is clearly enough evidence that he is concealing the fact that he is selling damaged goods.
Amazing M, You say he is "probably a little bit shady".
In my book, he is well beyond the possibility of being "shady"....he is a damned crook!

He did not even write back to me yet. He does not deserve anymore credibility from the collecting community. Not only is he a crook, but a liar as well.
He is not living by the Golden Rule.

I hope that if he is successful in selling these again, the buyers will keep returning them in perpetuity until this crook realizes that you can't treat people like this and learns to sell responsibly.

I think it would be cool if all of us start writing him and overwhelm him with questions regarding the condition. Maybe he will grasp the concept that we are a community here and this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.

I encourage anyone who has an extra minute to write to him and post your findings here.
Could be interesting!

I got a reply from the seller today:

Dear cuffs,

Yes I would take 275,, you may look at them and if you don't like them just send them back and I will refund your money, they are not in Gem condition, they had been used a hundred years ago,

- dkonrade7aql

Had I not known of the existing problem, I would be quite puzzled by his statement "at one time one was cut to shorten it".

I think he climbed up a notch or two in integrity by disclosing the problem, but his choice of words make his disclosure very cryptic and evasive in laying it on the line.

It is not too hard to say that one of the links has been cut but it could be repaired without too much dificulty.

I have no more to say. Goodluck to all involved
