Greetings, and nice comic book!

I've been a huge Peter Sellers fan my entire life, but don't recall him brandishing cuffs as "The French Bumbler".
I do, however, recall him causing his boss played by Herbert Lom to be committed to a sanitarium, where he was placed in a padded cell wearing a straitjacket.

In any case, I think that the La Pegy handcuffs would compliment Inspector Clouseau's character.
He could have practiced cuffing procedure on Kato.

Thanks for the info, Jack.

I was an avid comic book collector in the '70s and based my estimate on the cover price and the popularity of the Pink Panther film and cartoon series.

The final film in the Pink Panther series came out in 1978, and Peter Sellers' final film, "Being There", came out the following year. Sadly, Peter Sellers passed away due to a heart attack in July of 1980.

Steve Martin did a remake where he tried his hand at the Clouseau character, though there is just no substitute for Sellers' slapstick prowess.

Judging from the cover price, I'd venture '74 - '75 for the publication date. Do they actually use the name Clouseau in reference to The Inspector?

I have often wondered whether Clouseau was named after Clejuso cuffs - the way you say it must be similar with the J pronounced Y in German.
Also In "The Fugitive" with Harrison Ford, was Richard Kimball named after the handcuff of the same name - Kimball?

Dear Paul,

Yes, and when he wasn't writing the greatest plays and verse ever written in human history, Shakespeare was a Zulu warrior.

In the television series The Waltons, the Baldwin sisters were named after chain nipper inventor Alexander Baldwin, as was the American actor Alec Baldwin. Small world.

Inspector Clouseau was French, in which language Clouseau translates into English literally as "water nails". Sounds like some heavy metal or punk band.

It is rumored that Ava had a thing for leg restraints and changed her name after meeting her favorite inventor.



Natalie Wood is best known for her movie, Miracle on 34th Street. She hoped that she was known better for her Wood Chain Cuff collection


It is known that Robert Cummings' god father was Orville Wright, but it is believed that he would have traded John F Cumming for that role.

No, Not only did I not see this movie, I never heard of it.
This looks like a fine movie as is almost any film which has a hancuff scene in it. Worthy of a view, I'd say.
It looks like the co-star would rather figure out which model Mr. Cummings is wearing than keeping her eyes on the road. I was trying to figure it out as well.

Hi Jack,
I will check this one out. I love Hitchcock flicks.
I did a search of Cummings work and found a Green Acres episode. He is pretty good in it.. http://www.imdb.com/video/hulu/vi3992127769/
In this episode, Rest and Relaxation, Cummings gets arrested by the Sheriff and of course, the key is missing.
Lisa can open the cuffs, "like they do in the movies".

Seems that Cummings is the most handcuffed actor.

This vintage issue would have made a nice addition to Mark Lyons' collection on his birthday.

A couple of years ago I picked up some of the restored cartoon collections from The Pink Panther heyday and have thoroughly enjoyed watching them again!

As far as I can tell,
There are no other covers in the Inspector series that relate to our hobby.







I am trying to get one of all the above books as I find their content of paramount significance in dealing with today's social agenda and moral issues.

Human illustrators and artists are vastly superior to the computer generated artwork prevalent in today's comics. An example with a good clean, glossy cover would display well for years if kept in an acid free bag with cardboard backing. More valuable examples could be sent to the CGC for grading and insertion in tamper proof Lucite containers. I kept several of my once vast comic book collection just so that I could admire the cover art for years to come.
