This is more likely a padlock and not a single handcuff. As I'm living in your neighbourhood country Sweden,

I also have some restraints of this kind (from England) and I think that they are handcuffs, because the bows are rounded on the inside making them more comfortable. The size is also fitting for handcuffs.

Moreover they simply look like a predecessor of the Darby design.

Tom, I disagree with Lars, I think yours is a single cuff.

Lars, sorry I don't mean any disrespect. You are far more knowledgeable than I am in European restraints but Tom's shackle really looks like a single leg iron that is meant to be slipped through the end link of a puzzle lock chain or something of the like.

Guenter, I don't like primitive restraints but the ones you just posted are really neat. I love the keyway in them!!!

I would be interested in hearing what Steve Santini has to say about it.....he seems to be the authority on primitive, medieval and, ancient restraints.
