Leicester County Long Chain Darby by Hiatt

I bought this cuff on eBay about six weeks ago. The dealer shipped it by surface mail so it just came. It is a long chain Hiatt cuff marked LCP, which has been said to be the stamping used by the Leicester County Police. The cuff has a beautiful polished surface and all the normal Hiatt markings. The cuffs are 2.5 inches high with a six inch chain. This is the third or fourth example of a LCP long chain Darby to be shown on the Forum. I don't know of any other examples of 19th century long chained Darbies.

Very nice cuffs !

It's interesting that these long chain versions seem to all be associated with Leicester.
I'd love to know why this particular police department required the long chains.

Does anyone have standard darbies with Leicester markings ?

My set haven't any markings to do with Leicester.
They have the usual HIATT, BEST, WARRENTED WROUGHT, HARD & both the cuffs & key have the number 1. The end cap has the letter K.
