Serial Numbers Removed From Hiatts

Hello All,

A while back there was a posting about Hiatts handcuffs being purchased on eBay from sellers located in Canada and across the pond that have their serial numbers removed.

Of course the posting was attacked by some of the "experts" who claim they've never had seen that happen.

Well take a look at this eBay listings and read what is said.

This is a warning to new handcuff collectors.

It is standard practice for any of the UK Police Clearance sellers like "kit-ka-boodle" to remove Police serial numbers from cuffs. Unless there were never any Police ID numbers added to the cuffs it is best to buy them else were. But now there are lots of cuffs with serial numbers removed that are floating around so its best to see good photos or ask before buying a British cuff if the removal of the number is a problem to you.

Good morning,
why do you warn? As Paul wrote is already standard practice. What are you going to do with the parts? Collect or use? If you use it disturbs the rust of not arise there. The collector already. For this you pay for a handcuff with serial number on the double.

I believe he was warning US collectors of oversees practices. Because i for one hate it when this is not fully disclosed to me as a buyer.

Hello,

I acquired my Hiatt Speedcuff from a British seller. The serial number was removed, as is clearly and plainly visible. The price was great, the handcuff is in (otherwise) excellent condition and the original leather holder was included. I am pleased and have no complaint.

Thank you for sharing this. I too have ex-police with no serial number intact and they work finely. But I had to do moderate maindenante to remove rivet rust and debrie from inside the channel where the arm travels. But of course I had to reoil them aswell. They are my best handcuffs at this date. I think about buying a brand new pair but the only benefit is asthetics of not having a mark on them anywhere.
