I have a CCW permit and i carry one in the chamber safety on. Don't wanna take too much time should an emergency arise.

I carry a glock and all they have is a trigger safety, so i don't usually have one racked in but i've been thinking lately that if i get in a situation (hopefully i never do) that i need it im gonna be drawing an "empty" gun. I don't know why but i don't feel comfortable carrying with one in the chamber, not that i don't trust me, it's the no safety thing that gets me.

The glock is actually pretty safe as long as you keep your finger off the trigger. It has several built in safeties that go along with the trigger mechanism.

I sometimes carry a glock 27 concealed as well. I too had your concern, I prefer a hard safety myself. Best advice i can give, If you are uncomfortable with the idea, don't do it.

I have 2 weapons that I can carry.

The Glock 26 (9 mm.) fits in a holster inside my waist so I do keep it ready with one in the chamber. Getting to the trigger while in the holster would be difficult, but it is an uneasy feeling, I must say.

The other gun, a Walther PPK has an actual safety lever. I bought this gun as it fits nicely in my pocket and my worries of a discharge is greatly reduced with a real safety. Unfortunately, with 308 shells, it does not have much stopping power, but sometimes it is better to have something than nothing at all.

I carry the glock while working or keep it handy in my van and carry the PPK at other times.

I have two weapons I use depending on the situation and there is always one in the chamber as when you need it, you don't have time to rack the slide. One I consider very safe to carry as the safety is always on unless I squeeze the handle to cock the striker and even then the safety is still engaged. Not until the trigger is pulled 3/4 of the way does the safety block get removed and the striker can travel forward when released. If the gun is knocked out of my hand for any reason, it de-cocks automatically and is completely safe. The other one is straight double action with lever on the side of the slide. Both are 9 mm with LE Hydro-shock rounds from Federal. If you have to use a weapon, it should be second nature so you can focus on the threat at hand.

9.5 years on the street and 30+ years as a CI Special agent, now retired military.

Let my CCP expire, however I am still a CCP instructor, next class 27 Aug.

Being older I carry with one in the chamber with a traditional DA/SA action with a real safety on (hammer is now down)and I will no longer disconnect the magazine safety.

Preference is for the S&W 5906 or 6906 family, a Beretta 92F operates with the same "manual of arms" which is very important.

In my early days I carried a SA Browning High Power with one in the chamber and the hammer at rest, did not take too long to cock it with only one or either hand, the 1911 could be carried the same way.

However I think that the DA/SA semi autos are inherently safer than the SA semi auto's, have seen too many accidental discharges with the SA's.

Prefer 9MM 124 (or 135 gr Personal Defense HS) Federal HST, yea I know "the 9MM may expand but the .45 never shrinks".

Another favorite saying is:

"a .25 is something nice to have
when you are not carrying a gun"

Should renew my CCP and Passport sometime soon.

There is no such thing as an accidental discharge!
ALL discharges are the result of someone pulling on the trigger!

You can put a loaded gun on a table and come back in a hundred years.
Unless someone messed with it, it will remain unfired!

In Missouri we now have the freedom to carry concealed and have the castle doctrine now. I haven't gotten my CCW permit yet but when I do I'll carry my Sig with one in the chamber and the safety on.

If it was a Glock, I'd carry it locked and loaded.

I carry a Commander sized 1911 in Condition One - cocked and locked. That's the way the weapon was designed to be carried.
