Allways cuff on the back not in front
here in the Netherlands we cuff the hands left over right or right over left
so you do not have any movement

Stupid cop.
Should have cuffed the detainee behind the back in the first place.
All of our department cars have window bars to prevent this too.
This clip would be great to show in the academy.

I believe the bad guy was cuffed in back and managed to slip his legs through his arms. They just didn't show the front part of the tape. The news reports here said that the officer did in fact get three days off. It looks like the bad guy was left alone for quite some time.

The suspect was cuffed behind. The edited UK video doesn't show him moving his hands in front. We should all be so limber!

The full length video on CNN shows the suspect with the cuffs behind first. He slides his arms under his rear then under his legs. Hands now in front. It's not hard to do. This is where this clips picks up.

Hello,

Some years ago we had a thread about how easy or how difficult it would be to bring handcuffs behind one's back to in front of one's abdomen. It was absurdly easy. I, who likely couldn't escape from a paper bag if my life depended upon it, did it effortlessly in under ten seconds. I simply lowered my hands and stepped through them, one leg at a time. If everything in life were this easy, life truly would be a breeze and no one ever would have a problem with anything!

What occurs to me now, though, is if someone escapes custody, taking the handcuffs with him, is a charge of theft -- i.e., of the handcuffs -- filed against him when he is recaptured?

That guy should not have been left unattended for that length of time.

Cuffing wrists back of hand - to back of hand...makes slipping them from rear to front much more difficult....and with hinged cuffs---nearly impossible.
