This collar has been on eBay for quite a long time advertised as Hiatt but I do not believe it is. It looks like polished East Indian crap to me.....that is why the price keeps coming down and it still has not sold.
Cheers, Mike D~C/

#6----- for all you who don't seem to know much, but think they do ---- the NECK COLLAR is 100% legitimate OLD ... it was in my father in laws collection since at least back to 1967...... earlier i can not say.... back then - ALL COLLECTORS considered it HIATT made -- maybe INDIES made but while under BRITISH rule... even if it is NOT HIATT made & was actually made in the INDIES - not by HIATT or a HIATT contractor - it is still a great OLD restraint......reason price keeps coming down is because most of you DON'T know what a great item is !!!! to most of you you think that the modern crap is the CATS MEOW .....it seems that some of you have not learned much from the forum....except how to TRY to cut down people who know their stuff..... i suppose the idiots will call the LILLY that i am listing later today not real too....what a DISAPPOINTMENT some of you are.....joe
original "HIATT ENGLISH darby" NECK COLLAR screw key ENGLAND handcuffs w key
Joe, what do you mean? The offer is HIATT, who believes it will then also HOLY. And now you do not know where it comes from. Perhaps the father has already bought crap, and you sell him now more expensive. As a collector I sell such a part if it is not so great. Now come down there. The questions in this forum will probably be still allowed. And that is questioned in this key HIATT've got to understand you!

#11Hi,
I also have one of these neck collars. Mine comes with a key marked Hiatt but on the reverse it's hand stamped "Wheeler". I got it
back when I was young, probably late 70's-early 80's. While it may or may not be made by Hiatt, it is certainly not a cheap
reproduction. It's very well made and mine appears older. It's not in the condition Joe's is in, but still very good. I do know I've had two of them, one built for an escape artist to use, and the one still in my collection. My personal opinion would be, as previously stated, that it's not of Hiatt quality but much better than the India/Pakistani... stuff that's come out the last 20 years. Mine has no markings on the actual collar, just the key. The entire bow is beautifully rounded both in and out, nice solid locking mechanism, with the clevis for the chain attached in proper manner. The only tell-tale sign is the hing section is not attached at the proper angle, but more straight across. I consider mine a very nice piece in my collection, which includes several rare and scarce pieces.

#14there you go again - GROSS - gross .. showing that you have no idea of what you speak about.... as i said - MAYBE it was made in the INDIES when under british rule -- again, lets just say that is indeed was made in the INDIES or better yet - lets just say that it was NOT made by HIATT but made in PAKISTAN ... ok - fine, but for you who is ALL KNOWING to call it a REPRODUCTION -- shows your dumbness..... no matter where it (they) were made or who made it (them) - it sure in the hell is NOT a reproduction !!! how can it be, when NONE -- again --- NONE were made BEFORE IT ...... it does not matter if it was made in the 1940's - 50' - 60's -- 70's - or even 80's !! it - the earlier ones as this one is -- is for all intent & purposes -- an ORIGINAL !!!! DARBY NECK COLLAR.... joe

#16The photos speak volumes......East Indian or Pakistani, NOT Hiatt, Froggatt, Thompson, RCS, etc. Look at the hinge, the key hole, the key, and the end cap.......100% East Indian. I have NEVER seen a British made Darby of any kind with all these East Indian tell-tale features. Perhaps it was made back before India went to making total crap; I have an incredible padlock from India that was made a LONG time ago, before crude junk became the norm.....that is possible. However, that is not the point......Joe claims it is a Hiatt neck collar (and has been claiming that for quite some time) and it is not. Sorry, not buying the story or the collar for that matter........especially not for that price.

#17For what its worth, I had one of these for years. I purchased it as part of a collection a long time ago. The item is real, legitimate and NOT a reproduction.
I know that for a lot of years darby style restraints were made in the east. I dont know if they were licensed legally or not, but they were made years ago and in large numbers. They are good cuffs, Ive even had the Indian made sheffield pattern and the Hiatt made sheffield both in segmented bows,,,the Indian cuff was very old and just as well made and yes even had the more modern crap looking key, so I say based on having a few of them and having the modern crap repros, I believe these to be legitimate old darbies prabably made from Hiatt patterns although maybe not legally licensed.
As far as everyone slamming Joe Tanner, get over it,,,Ive known him for many years (a huge amount if converted to dog years) on occasion maybe weve sniped at each other as well as little snips with a lot of the other collectors on here, but I will say I generally like them all and I have learned things from all of them and a huge amount from Joe tanner
so go ahead and rip me anonymous,,,,those are my opinions

#18Mike, hi!
I believe you have just acknowledged that the item in question is a copy of a British design, and which was made in India. That is all that any of us have been saying. After that, and as long as the buyer knows what he is getting, the value is purely subjective. I also have some Indian reproductions like this. I picked them up just on a lark, to add to the collection. (One of them is actually stamped "India", believe it or not, and not "Yuma Prison".) But I knew what I was getting and I paid in the $10-$20 range.

#19HI Tom
Im not sure Im saying these are copies in the sense of reproduction, similar to that some very finely made swing thru cuffs are similar to peerless
I think the ones Ive had were made based on long standing patterns, and made quite well in terms of quality and function
Maybe im being long winded just to say i dont think these are repros
its good to hear from you

#21GROSS - GROSS ::: there you go again -- trying to twist what a person says into what YOU want it to be.... YOU STATE ---- I believe you have just acknowledged that the item in question is a copy of a British design, and which was made in India ..... MICHAEL -- DID NOT -- state anything about the COLLAR being made in INDIA or anywhere else, but was talking about cuffs in general... BUT since you seem to know it all -- PRAY TELL US -- PLEASE --- WHAT -- NECK COLLAR OF -- BRITISH DESIGN ??? -- did WHO EVER -- COPIED -- and made the EARLY NECK COLLARS that we are debating about ... PLEASE TELL US...i think WE ALL would like to know ---- when no one buys it this time and i relist it stating -- OLD ORIGINAL DARBY STYLE NECK COLLAR -- i am sure that several of you will still bitch & complain calling it a FAKE...

#22Whoa, Joe! Watch that blood pressure. You don't want to stroke out.
Although it would save you a bitch-slapping.
I have tried to be professional and circumspect in this discussion. It wasn't me who advertised that piece of crap as "Hiatt" or as "British". Are they Hiatt, Joe? Are they British? You've been pulling this kind of scam ever since I've known you. And you always seem stunned and hysterical when you get called on it.
There is a ritual which new collectors go through. When they begin to communicate with others, one of the first topics of conversation is, "How badly were you screwed by Joe Tanner?"
"Your mother would be proud", as you are so fond of telling buyers who complain about your merhandise in your eBay feedback. You have had quite a few complaints, haven't you?

#24Joe, there's always been a rumor that you had a fixation with men's asses. But please don't try to involve me in your degenerate fantasies.
Dennis, I just checked my Hindustani dictionary and that's not a proof mark. It's a character which translates as "Property of Mahatma Gandhi".
Maybe this piece really is rare. Maybe Joe wasn't trying to cheat anybody, after all.

Joe write you do it right, you never have problems, and not "I think" "Mayby" "I don't know" "HIATT"
HIATT original ENGLISH ENGLAND, search words are for bookmarks. And some fall clean it, but not all! My opinion, you do not have to share!
Without a doubt a beautiful neckcollar, just a bit expensive because its origin is not proven.
best, nice weekend
