Why don't you ask others who have discussed restraints other than cuffs. Some collectors collect more than cuffs. Joe has some real nice straightjackets for instance

It's interesting to note the age of this article. I certainly agree that this type of chair is used more to punish an inmate than to "control" their aggressiveness.

Just watch American Jail and how often the restrait chair is utilized on that program in many different jurisdictions. I'm all for law and order but as a human being you need to have compassion. They genuinely are in-humane to numerous arrestees for such minor offenses within the jail system.

Take note too of the fact that the side cells are kept at a low temperature level that the detainees are complaining about the cold. If that doesn't smack of another form of cruelty then I'm missing the point.

I agree that the purpose of this forum is to discuss all forms of restraints including those that aren't just handcuffs.

My understanding is that some jails keep their temps cold so the prisoners will try to stay warm under blankets, rather than roaming around, looking for trouble.
