got to put my 2 cents worth in on this catagory.... maybe FULL CAPITAL paragraphs & the whole writing MAY be shouting, but i learned long long ago that humans just do not read FULLY what is written... and they STILL DON'T ... i learned this in the early early 80's (actually long before that) when i use to send out lists & photos of items for sale etc... clients would call me or visa versa about items asking questions.. low & behold - HAD they READ the entire DESCRIPTION - the INFO was right there in FRONT OF THEM etc etc..... therefore, i really started to HIGHLIGHT (CAPITALIZE) words like -- 17 NOTCHES - PUSH BUTTONS WORK -- 98% PLATING -- etc etc... even before ALL of us were born, when people wrote letters - they would UNDERLINE or CAPITALIZE certain WORDS or WORDING so that the IMPORTANCE of that word or words would NOT BE MISSED etc etc.. even today, when i list items on EBAY - guess what - MOST people DO NOT READ the description as they are to eager or just scan the DESCRIPTION.... so i will just say to the folks who THINK capitalizing is crude - rude etc --- maybe you are the crude - rude person as people SHOULD be able to write - type as they wish to - WITHOUT being hassled etc etc... ok - now com on with the RUDE comments... LOL .. joe

SO I ASK YOU, WHAT IS EASIER TO READ. THIS ALL CAPITALIZATION OR THE STANDARD WAY OF WRITING THAT CIVILIZATION AND SOCIETY HAS PUT IN PLACE FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS. I SAY THAT THIS IS DISTRACTING FOR ME TO READ AND SEEMS ODD OR OUT OF PLACE WHEN EVERYONE ELSE IN THE ENGLISH SPEAKING (OR ALPHA-NUMERIC USING COUNTRIES) USE THE VERY COMMON PRACTICE BY RESERVING THE USE OF CAPS FOR A PROPER NOUN OR FOR HIGHLIGHTING SOMETHING THAT NEEDS THE EXTRA ATTENTION.

I ask you if this is this is easier on the eyes to read than the above. Does this not seem to be the most appropriate way to write? Capitilization of leading words or proper nouns has been the standard practice for hundreds of years. If the use of all caps were proper than we would have never developed lower case letters of we could try writing in Sanscript. Joe Tanner looks better this way to me than does JOE TANNER (unless you were a movie star and this forum was the marquis). An example: Joe Tanner sent me a rare cuff. OR JOE TANNER SENT ME A BROKEN CUFF. I say the former is normal and not as manacing as the later.

I was under the belief that paragraphs/sentences began with capitalization and ended with punctuation. However, I also know that poems can be written as the poet sees fit. Therefore it's my conclusion that Mr. Tanner has not decided to rebel against his elementary school teachers but instead is a fantastic poet.

Gotta THROW my 2 cents (Canadian) into this DOGFIGHT !! Joe, Correct me if I'm wrong, but seems you were lately taken to task for IMPROVING your Search Results on E-Bay. "DUH" I seem to have the idea that was what you always hope to do with any listing, especially E-bay with its computer driven search engines which SEEK OUT KEYWORDS. Now people are complaining about correct etiquette and useage of CAPITALIZATION, and WORD HIGHLIGHTING etc. Last time I looked the idea was to draw eyeballs to your message. AND..Last time I looked the INTERNET STYLE GUIDE WAS STILL AT THE PRINTERS! SO, ANYTHING you can use, THAT WORKS to GET YOUR MESSAGE OUT...USE IT in CAPITALS! It makes no difference if you use capitalization in either the title of the item selling on ebay or in the body of the text of the item you are selling. The search engines ignore capitalization when doing a search. What troubles me is the claims of some of the items I have seen over the years which I know to be false. I get it(not one of my favorite phrases), that he is trying to sell an item and make as much money as possible. What I don't get is someone who has been involved in collecting and selling in the world of handcuffs, etc. with a considerable wealth of knowledge stoop to such low standards. In a way this is a sign of someone who doesn't give a darn anymore and may speak to the mindset of the person.

worse than shouting with capitals is anon postings. It's too easy to put forward a point of view but remain anon.
With all those who post as anon, how do we relate to who is who and why their opinion should be as valid as someone who stands behind their comments with a traceable identity.

Do the words always need a name behind them? Does this lend more or less credence to what is being said? If the words are true, then is it necessary to have a name behind them?
