Chubb Folding Handcuffs

Following on from the recent tread ref. the Chubb 1K58 handcuffs, I seem to remember that Chubb did produce a folding pattern 'Arrest' handcuff. From what I can recall these were sent for trial to Australia.

Does anyone have proof that they exist?

Thanks Patrick for the photo, I have never seen a Chubb 'LIPS' cuff before, I aasume they were made in the mid 1990's when LIPS took over Chubb and then I think Racal took the group over a few years latter? Although from what I can recall Racal were only really interested in the Alarm & Electronic side and then re-sold the lock division??
I assume that quite a few were produced and sold to Police & Prisons but probably only a few have ended up in collections?
Does any other collector have them??

For what i know thet they only made a small batch for the australian police

and this is after a turbulent switch from chubb to lips/assa abloy etc.
how exactly i do not know
the only thing i know i got it from a dutch police officer who was sent out to australia
to teach how to use the lips cuffs
and he bring them back special for me he trade his own lips pair for these

Here is one of the cuffs actually used in Australia - number 000009.
They were tried in Australia but were found to be easily broken.
The locking lever was easily snapped.
I believe they were recalled and cut up. Except for this one.

Patrick, yours is different in that both key holes are on the same side.
Do you have any thoughts on why that might be and whether that was normal?

the "normal" or standard version is the version i have
this is the version only with lips markings ehat is in use by dutch gouverment police etc.
it is the way of cuffing why these cuffs are like this

we cuff left hand above right hand or vice versa
so the cuffs are vertical this only possible with the bows in opposite position

this is the only pair that was not destroyed as far as I know.
ACM stamped under CHUBB (which is also a different stamp to the other pair) stands for Australasian Correctional Management.
A Google search will tell you that under that name, they ran prisons and detention centers during the 90's and early 00's.
Under a change of name they continued to run different centers.

I just managed to get some patches to go with these ACM Chubb Lips cuffs. Although I do not collect patches, they will be handy to show what the ACM stamp on the cuffs stood for should I get run over by a bus or this website content gets accidentally deleted!

I have set number 004011 bought from Chubb locks in Australia (State confidential)
keyholes on opposite sides only marking are CHUBB, Serial number.
There were a few pairs for sale at the time so there are more than 1 set around.

if you are unable to post a photo, can you tell me if the Chubb logo is in capital letters or lower case. The picture of Patricks cuff, which is no longer showing up here, had only a capital C in Chubb with key holes on same side when lying flat.

It is hard to build our knowledge of these cuffs from hearsay, but I do recall which State you worked in and what industry, which explains how you had access to these cuffs and your knowledge of Chubb cuffs. It seems there was more than one batch sent to Australia. The serial number on yours suggests that more than 4000 were made. If yours has the same markings as mine except for the ACM stamp then it tends to disprove that only a small number were made.(Or maybe only a small number from one larger batch were sent here for trial). My source for this cuff is reliable, and in that State the cuffs were recalled and cut up except for maybe one or two which were souvenired.

From what you say, there may be more of these cuffs in the private collections of Police and Correctional Services people in other States. Any more information you have on these cuffs would be greatly appreciated.

Since we had "spot the difference" on the Chubb Detainers here are some variations on the Chubb Lips Cuff.
So, the 2 shown together have slightly different casting and stamping.
The other has key holes on same side.
