Just bought a pair of clejuso no 8 shackles, and I really like them. I was just wondering, are they really used in German prisons, or are they mostly for collectors? They seem kind of impractical, although not when compared to their no. 13 cuffs. I mean, why would you use those things when a normal pair of cuffs do the job just as well and come with the added benefit of not turning a prisoner's arms into a hammer?

Yes, Clejuso No. 8 and No. 13 are in official prison/court use here in Germany. I've seen both of them in newspapers used on criminals. No. 13 were combined with a prison belt, so that they cannot be used as a weapon.
But I've never seen a No. 15 (picture below) officially used.

This police officer ("Rock am Park") has, I believe, a pair of Clejuso 8s in his hand, taken at the arrest of the so called islamist Sauerland terrorists. I also read that during the arrest one of the perps grabbed the gun of an officer and was about to shoot him with his own gun. That might explain the tube restraint, which is a rare sight over here. Don't ask me about the masks.
