Quite possibly the world's largest shackles...

One of them lists "Broken Shackles" are on/beside her feet. I tried looking for photos that may show these "shackles" to no avail, as nearly all the 'feet pics' are by amatures, or are taken from helicopter and as such do not show clear detail.

Being the statue was constructed in the late 1800's, it is within the realm of reason that these "shackles" were modeled after REAL (French?) restraints.

Have anyone ever heard of this before? Or have any insight?

There's a so-so B&W photo showing them at www.nps.gov/history/history/online_book ... /hh11e.htm. Probably not many modern pics, since they can't be seen easily, but try googling "ststue of liberty shackles" or similar.
