Adams Bar Separator Cuffs

I just found a set of Adams Cuff with a multi-sided bar separator. The patina is consistent and the rings show no sign of being added. It looks like they are complete this way from the factory. The bar is tapered with ten sides alternating from 1/2 and 1/4 inches.

Has anyone seen one of these before?

Congratulations on a great finding. I've never seen such a set before. This set seem to be
100% factory made according to be very nice bar. Is it the 8 or 15 notches version?

Thanks Guys---I am in the process of soaking them with PB Blaster (great product). There is not much rust, mainly surface, but one bow will not move and there is movement in the other. The hinge swivels move after a little Blaster. My keys for my other Adams will not quite fit, so a key is in the works.

I have not seen any patent markings on the bows but until I get them open who knows and I will count the notches.

Thanks again. When I took them out of the box it was like finding a lost treasure. You never know what your are getting until you have it in your hands.

The length of the bar is 12 1/4 inches and heavy. The measurements I stated in the first post were taken at the center of the bar. The bar itself is a real nice piece of work. If someone was to make this set up from a regular pair of Adams, would they have made such an expensive bar? That, plus the quality of the rings is what makes me think they are original factory made. Of course there is no proof and I have never seen any advertisements for Adams cuffs.

Just got both cuffs open and they work well. The cuffs are marked "PATENT APPLIED FOR" on one bow and each bow has 16 notches. I need to get a little more surface rust off of one bow to see if they are marked.

Ron, I seen some photos of the Adams cuffs in the rusted state which you acquired them.

If you don't mind sharing information I would like to know how you got the surface rust off without totally removing the original finish (patina).

I have a pair of Tower bottom key cuffs (unplated variety) which are in the same state and I am reluctant to do anything with them which may harm the finish underneath.

Thanks in advance for any information you would like to share.

Thanks again for your comments. I just got home today from my third back surgery and trying to catch up with the great Forum posts.

What I use to get the surface rust off is a product that has been recommended on several back posts. It is PB Blaster that has a penetrating catalyst. It comes in a spray can so I have a small plastic pan under the cuff so the excess is saved and the cuff can rests in the collected pool.

Each time I have used this product the patina has not been affected which is most important to me.

Anyway, that's what I use. Hope to make it to Indy. I should be out of the back cast by then.

You have had way too many back surgeries.
I hope you get past this one with as little discomfort as possible.
Hang in there and I offer my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Maybe you should quit jogging around the neighborhood while carrying your cuff colection around with you.
