I figured this would be the easiest way to get this info to a lot of people.

Okay, those of you that know me, know that I have one son in the U.S. Marines. A little over a month ago, he shipped out for a seven month stint in Afghanistan. I just got a letter from him, and he said that he really enjoys getting mail from me (I have written him quite often...and those that have received letters from me know that I can write!). Since he enjoys....and looks forward to receiving mail, I am making a request if anyone here would be willing to write to him...either write a letter or maybe send a card.

To avoid what happened on another board, I don't care what your political views are, or what you feel about our servicemen/women being in Afghanistan. MY son is in Afghanistan, and to make his time there eaiser, he looks forward every day to hearing his name called during "Mail Call." Sure, I would rather him be home, but this is what he has chosen for his life, and I will do whatever I can to make his time in the service more comfortable.

I have nothing but the best wishes for Margarette's son. But here's an observation. What is this Marine going to think when he starts receiving letters from total strangers, who say that his mommy asked them to write? I expect that he will be mortified. And, God forbid, what is going to happen if his fellow Marines find out.

This isn't his first day at summer camp, Margarette. He's a big boy. Cut the apron strings.

I can tell you that Ben would love receiving mail from people, whether they know him or not. I have had requests from other Marine moms to do the same...I have a couple of names from other moms who have made the same request that I am making. He will not be mortified, in fact, he will be the envy of other Marines who aren't getting quite so much mail. He looks forward to any mail he receives...he told me it lifts his spirits when his name is called during "mail call." Apron strings were cut when he went from being "Recruit" to "Marine."

Do you remember when people could write letters and address it to "Any Serviceman" and it would be delivered? What I am requesting really isn't that much different, it's just to a specific serviceman.

He wants to hear everything, from the mundane like "I overslept" to the interesting "there was a fire three houses down....you shoulda seen the flames!" Shawn, he would love to hear about your grilling escapades!

Above all else, I hope you son returns whole as he left you! Let us hope no serious harm comes to him and he comes home a wiser person who appreciates life even more than when he left.
