wind apart handcuffs

Okay all, I spotted a weird key that they are calling a handcuff key and I have my doubts. So I sent an email claiming they looked it up, where I don't know. They said it was to "wind apart handcuffs", and I think maybe they are miss understanding what they were reading.

Just a thought here. The old Fetters medieval style shackles, (collars, stocks, bilbos, spreader bars, other hard restraints made from flat steel bar), used a captive internal wrenching (allen screw) fastener. The restraint was hinged somewhere and when closed the screw was simply tightened. Not high tech but it worked. I never saw what kind of key was used, even before shipping from England they were way out of my price range back then. I would hope they would give you something a little nicer than a simple allen wrench to work them and this key would work nicely.

I already thought of that and I know what Fetter's shipped with them. I asked them to be more specific where they found this information as this key could be used but they don't say what size the hex is.

Gosh, things like this make me feel old.

What that thing reminds me of is the weird little key used on the cheap, dinky little locks they used to put on the drawers of old treadle type sewing machines. Both my grandmothers had those things. What always confounded me, even as a kid, was why bother to put locks on the drawers of a sewing machine? Protection from bobbin bandits, perhaps? Thread thieves?

Well, if it is a handcuff key, I'd certainly like to see the set of bandit bracelets it goes to.
