These do look like French cuffs with their elliptical shape, though Clejuso produced a very similar model a few years back.

We've run into the same conundrum with the French or German padlock handcuffs.

Hmm, could it be an Asian copy of a Clejuso 12D? The keys and the chain remind me on Asian handcuffs.

the cuffs are really old and not replica
the keys are not original that is one thing i know for sure
my mother had same keys on a jewelry box
the only markin on the cuff is V 1917
i do not think this is the date of use

hello guys!

this handcuffs are not french or chinese...
they are from Slovenia ( ex Yugoslavia),made by Aurea Celje

it's the first model of our cuffs used from cca 1955 to cca 1980
they are not very safe,and have two problems:

1.chains dosen't have sviwel,so stronger guys were many times simply brakes the chain!
2.on the 1,2,3 tooth they can't take much presure and they are quickly opened (guxs with big wrists...)

second model have two swivels and one single chain betwen them, (similar like french La Massenotte...)

used to cca 2000. Some older officers stil have it.

i try to get a picture...
second model is not very diferent,shapes are identical only key is a litle difrent and swivels with one chain betwen them.
i think our " designers" simply coppy french la Massenotte from 40's

and yes,your key is not original.

today our officers have: -smith & wesson M 100
-some chainese like M 100
-hiatt with chain
-hiatt ultimate hinged cuffs


tell me please,how far this cuffs travel???

yes this is a second version!

but two factories worked this cuffs.This on the picture are made by Kuclar Ljubljana.
a factory AUREA CELJE,worked the same cuffs,but they were not double locked,and key was diferent.

It has been a long time since this topic has been discussed. I own the oldest type of Aurea handcuffs- the version with four chain links without swivell and a solid key (a version with 7 chain links also existed). The cuffs were used by my father who was a police officer in former Yugoslavia and later on in the newly formed republic of Slovenia. He started his career in 1976 and according to his statement, the cuffs have already been used before.











During the discussion it has been said that the handcuffs are a copy of "La Masenotte" handcuffs. I live in the Soa valley in Slovenia and the area where I live was quite an important battlefield in the WWI- so called "The Isonzo front" (1915-1917). A friend of mine is a collector of militaria and he owns a metal detector. He often seeks for the remains of the front and his collection of the objects he has dug from the ground is impressive. During one of his "archeological" trips he dug out a pair of handcuffs which are identical to the ones presented on my post. The rivets and the chain were badly corroded, but the nickel plated parts were intact. I tried to explain him that the cuffs are from Yugoslavian army or the police, but he is not buying it. He claims that he found the cuffs at the same depth (50 cm) along with a German WWI "dog tag" and a German belt buckle... There is a possibility that the Aurea cuffs are a copy of an unknown German WWI handcuffs... I will post a photo of them ASAP.

This particular pair is not fore sale, because of its sentimantal value. In my opinion the prices of these restraints range from 20-30 per piece. Currently I am in contact with the local Police station- they probably still have some older handcuffs in their warehouse. If I manage to get some pairs I am willing to sell some of them.

Hi folks!

I have some bad news. On both local Police stations in my area they do not have any of the extra pairs I have mentioned. They use plastic single use handcuffs in case of bigger events. All those handcuffs went to the central warehouse in Ljubljana and they were/are supposed to be destroyed.

I will ask another police officer who works at a "higher level" if there is any chance of retrieving them, before it is too late... There were litteraly suitcases full of these handcuffs on the police stations...

At this moment the only chance to get some "Aurea Celje" stuff is trading with the policemen, but this method proved to be futile in most cases...
