Unknown British(?) Darby

Hello fellow collectors,

Does anyone have an idea who the manufacturer of this Darby, which I purchased from England, could be? The restraint is completely unmarked except for the letter "53". The unusual key is marked "26", so I am not sure, if it really belongs to the cuffs, but it matches perfectly. Thank you in advance.

Hi Guenter,

Judging from the gentle flare of the metal from the hinge to the top of the lock tube, where it seems to have rounded edges, I would say you may have a Froggatt.

Hi Steve,

there are indeed some similarities to the two older ones of my three Frogatt Darbys ( top and middle) but none is completely identical to this unknown Darby (e.g the nearly perfect round shape of the bows). Moreover the three Frogatt Darbies and my Frogatt Irish 8 are all clearly (deeply) marked "Frogatt" (and "Warrented Wrought" and/or "Hard", except of the Irish 8), while this unknown Darby shows no markings even not markings, which are badly stamped or faded away. But the restraint is of very high quality, so I ask myself why should a major manufacturer like Frogatt or Hiatt not mark it with the companies name?

Thank you for the kind comliments on my new web site.

Although the overall look has been called "Gothic" by some, it is actually a hard rock, metal, biker type of thing I had in mind when creating it.

Either way, it is working very well and I have more bookings lined up than I actually feel like doing!

No matter. More shows means more travel. And more travel means more chances to hunt for rare and unusual handcuffs and restraints.
