Rare Nippers

Here are a few nippers I have recently purchased from a good friend and long time collector Ray McKee. Several I had only seen in drawings. The craftsmanship is remarkable.

I look forward to seeing you Ron. At one time Ray had what was arguably one of the finest collections in the world. Ray's current collection is very nice as well. It is nice to see some of those great pieces again.

Sorry -the correct spelling of the nipper is Lightbown. Joe G. you may want to change the index in your next edition of the patent book.

Hi Damon, nice collection. The lightbown would be hard to use? all the others seem to be semi self closing or locking.
Can you take a photo of the lightbown opened ready for application.

Ian- The nipper has a floating pivot point at the center of the nipper which makes it very easy to release the catch. There is also a fairly strong spring which spreads the sides to the open position up on release. With a little practice you can release the nipper to the open position as you would have prepared to apply it. Very cool.

Hi Damon, thanks for that, I didn't realise that the two halves interlocked. This is one of those items you have to hold to understand. The way the two handles cross over each other, makes it look difficult to grip and manipulate.
(a new project for you might be to post videos of "nippers in action" but have nothing to do with junior sports clubs.)
