Inherited handcuffs for sale.

My father in law recently passed and left some handcuffs after him, now the family wants to sell them.
I Googled and found this forum, maybe somebody is interested in buying them? Is $1200 too much to ask? I got that
offer from an antique dealer in town. I have attached a picture but none of us is a great photographer.

Their value is much higher,1200 USD is the value of some individual items. Do not sale them for such a low price.

Frank, you have some really nice cuffs. There are many collectors who would be interested in several of them. You could do much better than the offer form the dealer you talked to. I would suggest you post better pictures and selling the items one at a time. You you could use this Forum or eBay. Information as to condition is important. As to price, the market will easily determine that for you, especially if it is a rare item in good condition.

Hi guys!

As many of you know, the April's Fool Jokes has turned to a tradition.
It started with a spontanious posting several years ago about some Kakola
cuffs on a cheap sale. Do you remember?

Please forgive me, I just couldn't resist! The picture in question comes from
a fellow collector's collection years back and the cuffs are unfortunately not for sale.

Let's follow Joe's suggestion trying to identify the cuffs, some are easy but
others are not.

April fool Amazing Michael, not one of those cuffs are mine.

The cuff was made by all round great guy and once best handcuff collections of all time, Mr Ray McKee. I think the photo my be one of his from around the 1970's

I believe then sold to Mike Griffen and then to Gordon.

I heard there was a bit of controversy surrounding the McColl Czar cuff. I will not mention the person's name, but I heard one of the former owners of that cuff was trying to pass it off as an original, denying it was a McColl. The same person was selling obvious east Indian/Pakistani wire-welded leg irons off as "really old, antique, possibly Civil War relics???" (I know that for a fact.....seen the auction for myself) so it wouldn't surprise me.

BTW, I think Chris Gower owns the Czar cuff at the present time....I could be wrong.

Ian, the story of the Czar cuff is well known throughout the community; you are a very well connected guy, you should ask around. As to the other thing, I will not discuss it on the forum in detail......it would be very damaging to the seller's reputation (even if it is justly damaging).

Yes Michael is right, I did buy the Russian Tzar cuffs from Mike Griffin. I knew their true history and have the letters from Ray McKee and photos of when he had them in his collection.
They are very nicely made and make a nice addition to the collection.

The story I heard about the Czar cuff is probably the same......my story about the misrepresented cuffs is a bit more detailed than I have spoke of here so far and I am going to leave it at that. However, I have had a dealing with the same guy and feel he conned me to make a quick buck. I ignored a red flag that came up about the cuff before the deal was finalized and I took his word about the condition of the cuffs. I know now he lied to me about them and I am now stuck with them or have to lose quite a bit of money to sell them with an honest description of their condition. I am chalking it up to "lesson learned" and I will not buy from him again. So, judging from my personal experience and my first hand accounts of his dealings AND a whole host of other things that have not yet been mentioned here, I believe the Czar cuff story that has been told throughout this circle to be true. Whats funny is, people like this are held up high by the community publicly and defended left and right for their misdeeds but I am an "asshole" for telling some insane jackass off on another thread or because I asked too much money for a couple of my cuffs a while back (too much in some people's eyes, not in mine.....I still disagree). I guess I have not made any great contributions to the community yet (in in their eyes), so I am punished severely for the slightest indiscretion. This is a funny group of people. If I had it all to do over again, I would have stuck with padlocks......we don't have this drama on the padlock forums.

Sorry if it sounds like I am venting.....I guess I am a bit.

BTW, this whole thing has the potential to get nasty.......I think we should put it to bed now.
