Mary La Trobe? The wife of Harry La Trobe and mother of Peter? Seems the whole family worked for Hiatt.

The "figure of 8" cuffs, I assume, is what Joe L has named the "Irish 8" and are different to the "Plug 8' where both sides are the same size.
"Irish" because the Garda would put the big side on the prisoner and the small side on themselves. LOL

Somewhere, among all binders, I also have some old receipts from Hiatt. -Probably from the late 1970's when I bought some cuffs from them in my youth.

It's really sad when a company with such long history and legacy finally cease the business. I just had to check Google Maps, trying to find the building...



The building was pretty easy to find and I was surprised by the modest size - this was a factory manufacturing handcuffs and not a living house which it kind of looks like from the front.

I can't help it but I just love these British buildings made of solid bricks having plants in the front - it's something romantic about them, isn't it?

Greetings from across the great pond!

Those shrubs that accentuate the Hiatt corporate offices are quite common here in planting zone 7a of the USA. As of about 2 weeks ago, all of my trees have bloomed and I planted my first shrub (Berkman's Arborvitae) to commence the growing season.
Perhaps I will add some Fetterbush next.

American Handcuffs operated out of Tolbin Tool and Die, it was such a small building you, also, would not have thought it produced handcuffs nor was there any indication on the building that they did. Just a big Tolbin Tool and Die sign.

From the image of the Hiatts building, it appears a "hair challenged" individual is seated in the office (window to the left). I wonder what's going on there now?

Never mind the handcuffs, I am intrigued with the fact that they have solar panels on a factory that is located in a temperate zone with many overcast days.
...and whats up with that blurred shrubbery and fence on the left side of the picture?

Not solar panels, Mark. They are plexiglass roof windows.

Hello Mark:

Google Earth uses some kind of recognition software that blurs people's faces and what it considers to be private property. Sometimes there are ways around this, sometimes not. Also, it doesn't allow you to zoom to street view if the target address is located on a "Drive" as opposed to a "Street," "Avenue," "Boulevard," etc.
