Greetings fellow collectors!

It may interest some of you to know that W.V. Adam's 1862 patented adjustable ratcheting handcuffs were ranked #80 on Stephen Fry's 100 Greatest Gadgets List. The common cigarette lighter ranked #1 on the list as yielding "fire with a flick of the fingers".

Hi Jason, I thought the show would be grand with Fry as the host but it seems he has sold out and gave his name to it so people would watch. QI was brilliant and I thought this would have been in the same theme, sadly no. I did watch a bit of one episode up to the handcuff. Good to see the humble handcuff make it to the list.

Greetings Ian!

Hadn't heard of QI until now. A game show that allots and deducts points subjectively.... interesting! The producers would likely be accused of favoritism or discrimination had the show aired here in the states. Every little thing is a frivolous law suit here.

The humble ratcheting handcuffs deserved a much higher ranking of importance to humanity than some of the junk such as Wii and the Teasmade, in my opinion.

Regards,
Jason

Hi Jason, QI is not a game show, it's an education and a laugh combined. The Poms and the Aussie's don't take these things so seriously.

I am guessing the producers are the same for the show 100 greatest magic tricks. They dont say who made the list and I am sure the Stephen Fry didnt write this list.

Cuffs are better than Wii, Wii is turning mature adults into idiots.

In the same vane as QI is Randlings, it might be up your alley (also Lord Taniss)
Its a loose game show but about words and you get to learn as well (unlike wasted time at a church)
I your should be able to down load it from ABC (Australia)

Read about it at
http://blogs.abc.net.au/abc_tv/2012/05/ ... enton.html
heres an excerpt

The word 'Randling' has a curious meaning. How did you come across it?
One of my treasured possessions, which I have had since I was a teenager, is Mrs Byrnes Dictionary Of Unusual, Obscure and Preposterous Words. It is the only dictionary I have read cover-to-cover, because every page contains at least one word that makes you laugh out loud. The word randle from which we took the name of the show is defined as a nonsensical poem recited by Irish schoolboys as an apology for farting at a friend. How can you not love that?

Hi Jason, I do hope you can view a few Randlings and report back.
Cruithne !!!!! I remember that episode and the responses, especially Rich Halls. Very funny and news to me. Thanks for the link, good to see it again and laugh.

I did like the episode where Stephen Fry informs us that in Galileos time the Popes accountant said that the ring around Saturn was Jesus foreskin.

Maybe you could find that one too.(?)

Hi Ian!

I haven't been able to locate much material pertaining to the "Randlings" show (the producers are citing copyright law), although I was able to locate the hilarious QI excerpt of Jesus' foreskin HERE.

Enjoy!
