Unusual Swedish darby for sale

I am offering this somewhat unusual and likely rare Swedish darby for sale. These are on the smallish wrist circuference side and have a beautiful even light brown patina to them.

They have the original key and are made with an elongated swivel and unusual clevis anchors linking the chain to the cuffs.

Is there something in the style of the cuff that is a giveaway that it is Swedish....or did you actually pick them up from Sweden? Not sure how the question comes across, so to clarify I'm genuinely asking for future knowledge not to be a smart ass.

Hi Joshua, one thing that the Sweds seem to do better than everyone else is the almost impossible to see gap between the hinge knuckles.

The thin end caps, the key, the lack of stamping on the end caps.

Compared to English darby cuffs, I personally think more careful hand work went into this one.

I appreciate the explanation from both. I've never seen a Darby example like this, are there a handful of these around? If so do they all have the same characteristics as mentioned? What is it about the key that gives it away as Swedish...are the threads similiar to any British produced key? Sorry for all the questions just intrigued because its something new to me. Thanks again guys.

Hi all,

These handcuffs are for sure very interesting and I agree to the comments on the very small gap in te hinge on Swedish manufactured Darby cuffs.

First, I thought I knew all about Swedish restraints as I live here and have seen plenty of them through decades. This one however, is completely
new to me. I dont recognize the general design, the swivel or the key style. They are also not similar to any other Swedish Darby cuffs I know of;
the "Johan Walén" or my other unknown Swedish Darby handcuffs. See pictures.

Exactly as stated, Swedish Darby cuffs are rarely stamped and they have thin and flat end caps. All these resemble they might be of Swedish origin.

HI LARS, i notice the long shank up to the shoulder of the key in your top photo the guts must be really far down inside the tube, the key in the 2nd photo is inserted ,is it also deep to the shoulder?

Its indeed an interesting handcuff. I have never seen this type before.

Usually the Swedish handcuffs are lighther and more fine made than the Brittish one. Some of them take a key that is longer to reach the bolt. They also have diffrent thread in the key barell. Walen fabricated several Darby styles and also padlocks.

I have enclosed a picture from my collection of Wallen handcuffs and padlocks, the keys are original.
