Maybe they should rejig the FN Herstal cuffs with the magnet key. At least the key could be found with a metal detector as opposed to plastic keys.

It's a pleasure to witness the merging of computer/imaging technology with good old fashioned escapology. Houdini used wax and files, Ray uses a 3D printer and laser cutter. The new methods do unfortunately pose a particular challenge to TSA screeners and criminal courts that rely heavily upon metal detectors.

perhaps people shall remember that handcuffs are just a temporary restraint and the victim should be monitored all time. Otherwhise you have to use handcuffs with individual keys like the Chubb Escort. There is no "security by obscurity", if all handcuffs of one type have the same key, it is possible to get a working key. You can buy the key, you can buy the handcuffs with the key or you can make a copy of the key. It can be done the classical way (filing keyblanks or sheets of metal, usind Dremel or milling machine etc) or the more modern way...

But there will be no way to make an "uncopyable" key, but all keys the same. Also electronic keys have been hacked, it is easier when a lot of keys and locks exists and all are keyed alike same.

I think, a key for the SAF-LOK will be more difficult, but possible, atleast the keycopy should work a few times until worn. Cuffmaxx für S&W and Peerless have individual keys, but they can be bypassed without picking the cylinder itself... (Peerless easier than S&W).

Banning 3D printers is not a solution, you can make key copies also from plastic sheets with jigsaw, file or Dremel, you need only more time and it is less "high tech" and hacking
