What do u think when u ask a seller on eBay to send u pics of the makers marks on there cuffs they are selling and they dont .the first time they said they are marked but would not send pics I asked again for pics to help my cofidence in purchase but the reply was "they are 100% real what would u guys think and if u want to know the seller I will tell u just leave me a message . I could b totally wrong but it seems shady. Thanks

When I ask a seller a question and there is no or a poor reply, I just do not bid on the item. There will always be another later with a more responsible attitude.

My advice to your question:

1. Do not bid on any item from a seller who will not reply to e-mails; imagine how responsive he/she will be if the item does not arrive, is damaged, or over graded.

2. Do not bid on any item that does not have all sides pictured, especially on "no return" items; most of the time the seller is trying to hide damage or poor condition and the best way to reveal if this is the case is to ask them to post more photos since eBay allows up to 12 photos for the same price as one photo (see #1 above if they do not respond or tell you that their camera is broken).

3. I am constantly amazed at the number of sellers who think they can sell an item "sight unseen," but not nearly as amazed at the number of desperate buyers who will bid on such items; would you walk into a store and purchase a used, collectable item sight unseen, without asking to look it over?

A new collector will run into this numerous times.
An advanced collector will as well.
Years ago, I wrote the Fake Guide to help identify cuffs that unscrupulous sellers sell as valuable and authentic items.
I see that the pictures don't show up any more. I will attempt to correct this.

I have always thought that if the seller won't answer questions BEFORE the auction, he certainly won't respond to any issues you may have AFTER the auction.
The piece you are interested in might be a good item but it is more than likely garbage.
Keep the money you saved on this auction and move on to an auction with a less questionable outcome.

The most blatant one I see is someone trying to pass off one or a pair of seabag shackles (seabag closures/handles, either with built-in locks or padlockable) as handcuffs.

Another is listing a locking suitcase buckle as a "straitjacket buckle."
