Bonowi Tri-Lock for sale?

What are my chances of getting a pair of the Bonowi Tri-Lock cuffs? I understand their sale is restricted but they are out there.

Anyone seen one for sale/auction? What ballpark price did it fetch?

And for locksmiths/escapists, how difficult is it to pick and or shim these? It doesn't seem possible to shim, and it looks to be, short of making a replica key, difficult to pick even if you had all your tools on hand.

I don't understand why the arm has cutouts, other than to reduce the weight by a few insignificant grams, and since they do not not swing through, these would stay inside a cabinet until used for transport, so weight should not matter. It also seems they would benefit from a keyhole post, but I don't know if the post would aid or resist the picking process.

yes, you can pick the Bonowi Trilock, i have done it seveal times, "off hand" and "on hand", but it is much more difficult than a standard handcuff but easier than a ADI SAF-LOK. I have described it here, you can find it with "bonowi" and "shim" by forum search:

BTW: Bonowi can be easily purchased e.g. at www.cuffsland.com - you just have to be a members of the German or US police, military or customs and send a copy of the service certificate via fax or e-mail in advance.

I was wondering if you could help with the explanation of the working as I see in your photos

My question is in regard to the suggestion of the deadlocking springs being trapped

The black double lock bar is located over the detent on the pawl spring (not double locked) but the tip of its spring is free of any trap in the casing casting.

Photo #5 Bonowi_Trilock_Cutoff_5_DL_locked, show the tip of these spring in the correct postion (?)

The only direction the double lock bar and its springs can move, is away from the trap edge ( but photo#6 appears to show them in a position they cannot go) Marked with red line.

Hello,
the last two pictures (no 5 and no 6) show the doublelock alone in the lock case. In both pictures the doublellock moves "up" and "down", parallel to the edge of the black part of doublelock in the background. The three ends of the doublelock in the foreground are springs and have tension towards lock case, so if doublelock is set they will catch behind the edge of lock case (the right red marked edge in picture no 6). Key move springs first to the left and then pushes doublelock up.

If you want to pick the doublelock, you have to move all springs simultanously away from edge and push doublelock open. But springs does not cath perfectly, so it is sufficiant to move one or two springs away from edge, the remaining springs will snap around. Or you set springs alternatively ("round robin") until all springs are sitting above edge and doublelock can be pushed.

In the other pictures this edge of lock case cannot be seen, the top half of lock case ist removed and the edge of bottom half is masked by other parts. The three springs of doublelock are separated by thin sheet plates, they are removed in pictures no 5 and no 6.

Well i am sure you can get a pair if you know know a fellow collector that can get you a set.I know you have to be really stupid to send your personal or police information to a foregin country?? There is so much identity fraud out there that this company has no right to ask for this.Dont be a fool and lose your identity keep you ID in your pocket.

Hi Andy, thank you, I do and did understand the text, but the two bottom pictures didn't appear to be correct (in regard to all other parts), I double checked, referencing them against the 2nd and 3rd photo and now I can see it.

I have a pair of the Bonowi chain style cuffs and love them. As a conversation piece, they are top notch. The quality is impeccable - almost too nice to really be a service item - and they are very impressively made.

I was fortunate to have another collector sell me this pair and quite honestly I got them at a steal. I've never seen a pair on ebay so it would be hard to guess a value. I'd be floored if any sold for under $300 us as hard as they are to get.

They are so nice / expensive and so heavy that I can't immagine them being in production forever.

If you ever get a chance to aquire a pair, you wont regret it because they are quite the cuff.

Well, Anonymous, this company like every other company that sells Bonowi Trilock has not the right but the duty to ask for this information and to note the data together with the serial numbers of the purchased cuffs. That's a requirement inflicted by Bonowi.

So it's quite simple: accept it or leave it!

I have had to use my law enforcement ID card to purchase several cuffs over the years.
I have never had any problems, especially with overseas puchases.
If choosing to purchase from cuffsland.de, I will say with 100% certainty that no problems will arise as I have firsthand knowledge that they are reqired to log restricted items with the manufacturer and keep accurate records.
You are as safe as can be when using this company and all information is kept in the strictest confidence.
Maybe someone had problems with other companies, but I know and trust this one.
