Hi what's everyone's thoughts on the Alcatraz handcuffs for sale on eBay rite now , because I'm so sick of people selling homemade fake items . It pisses me off that people go out of there way to try to scam new buyers . So what's your thoughts are they fake?....they must have been found in Alcatraz lake, by the way the look.

Why care? it's not you getting sucked in because you know better and unless you were to advertise in the wider media, newspapers, on-line , TV etc you can help everyone and then again there are those who don't want to know.

People have been selling snake oil for forever and will always. Romney as a Mormon believes Jesus visited America, go figure??? people believe what they want not what is correct.

Why care? Because maybe I am a new collector and I don't want to get get beat and also why do you care enough to answer my post ?sounds like there is a lot caring going on in your message . You can never go wrong by helping out a new collector , most new buyers spend there money on buying experienced collectors items .

I only replied because I cannot understand why you want to get all emotional about something you cannot fix.

Why write, Because maybe I am a new collector
Either you are or you are not, isnt saying MAYBE just as fake as the cuff.
If you are new, then your first post says you know they are fake cuff and you havent said you got taken.
If you are not new to collecting, why not write a different way of saying it. How about Beware new collector
and then say why...
Then is not much caring in my response other than letting you know that there are bigger and weirder things to be pissed off about than someone selling a cuff with Alcatraz on it (especially when this has been happening for years and still they show up and still people buy them.
And the best answer from one buyer here was, I know its not authentic but hang over my bar, its a great talking point

Back in the day, I used to be able to see and write to the bidders of any particular item.
I would warn the potential buyer of the impending danger of paying good money for a worthless hunk of crap. It wasn't long that I started getting nasty-grams from eBay about this behaviour.

I know I saved quite a few people and did my part to improve the economy. Many people wrote to thank me and some were suspicious enough to think that I wanted the item for myself and was trying to prevent them from bidding by calling the item a fake. An interesting concept, but just not my style.
I genuinely cared about the collecting community and wanted the hobby to grow and prosper, but I learned that you just can't save the world. If newbies get burned too many times, they would stop collecting, was my thinking.

I spent a great deal of time writing the above article and I have received many emails thanking me or to answer questions about an upcoming sale. I saved quite a few from buying Sing Sing Ball and Chains, "authentic" pirate chains and Billy the Kids death cuffs found in an old barn in the deep, deep south.

It is a good feeling to help others out but this is about all I can do, legally and by time constraints.

I see that my pictures are not displayed anymore.
I will have to fix up the site with some new ones.

Ian, I didn't realize that Jesus visited America. I think I saw him walking down by the beach a while back....should have stopped to say hi.

Thank you Mark I appreciate your efforts for someone to think that a person would enjoy a fake 300$ wall hanger "conversation piece" is out of there mind. I feel as though this forum is a place to spread knowledge and thank-you for doing that.

Mike, like Mark, in the early days of ebay and other auction sights, I used to think it helpful and a bit of a moral obligation to let bidders and sellers know what they had when the seller was being untruthful or didn't know.

I got good and bad and sometime no response. If I was to continue this, it would take up all my time. If I was true to the cause, then I would have to assist with other things I have knowledge of, locks, tools, metal work, etc etc.

If you wish to take the helpful moral high ground for the sake of humanity, why just do it for handcuffs. You cannot help all.

At some point the buyer has to be responsible for the knowledge they have, having done their own research. Many people, new and green come here to ask what 'we' think. They are the ones to help, those who help themselves.

Ian I am a carpenter by trade and mainly a metal worker so I respect the work you do ,being someone who works with their hands for the past 17 years Every dollar counts and I'm sure you agree . Even though you don't know me I own keys you have produced and respect your contribution.

My argument IS you cannot help everyone!!!!!
some will fall through the cracks, some will be ripped off, I know I have BIG TIME.
