Safe Diposal of Handcuffs

Hi,

I have some modern handcuffs I no longer require and wish to dispose of. Before just chucking them in the bin, I was wondering what the safest method to dispose of them would be. I was thinking in the event an animal got its head stuck in them or child came across them somehow etc.

I don't have access to tools to break them down to pieces so was thinking of of the following approach:

1. Interlock the shackles of each cuff together
2. Close each shackle to the smallest opening the rachet will support.
3. Double lock the cuffs.
4. Wrap the cuffs once with duct tape.
5. Dispose in bin without keys.

Any comments, suggestions etc?

Drop them over the fence at the local school and then keep watching youtube for up coming fun.

what do you do when you get rid of any other thing? kitchen knives, forks, plastic bags, syringes, used bandaids, tin cans etc.????

To the replys: Idiot trolls. And not even the funny and amusing kind. Are you guys 8yrs old?

To all: Nothing wrong with this question. If you are not managing your trash, you are doing it wrong. All those CD ROMs you burned (that will outlive you), documents you filed, audio/video tapes you recorded, the crap on your computer...

To the poster: your idea seems good to me. Myself, I would open the cuffs and then double lock them. The bows could then swing free, it could not exceed maximum diameter, and they could not be used as restraints at that point. Since there is no rigid ring, the animal issue is avoided. Kids will get a harmless novelty and maybe show up here some day.

I would recommend you send the cuffs to someone on this board, and I expect they will pay shipping and maybe a little nut on top. If you have a big stack of Peerless or S/W to dump, you have some money on your hands. $7 a pair in bulk is a fair price for both parties, with shipping fees being the bargaining chip.

Being steel and all, you could always just bury them in your back yard. By the time they could be dug up they will be useless.

If you have a pawn shop nearby, I bet they would give you a coin or two for each one.

If the serial numbers are registered to your employer or you purchased any of them direct, there is a paper trail, so you should take care in that case as the item may be your responsibility. In case of employment, return them and get a receipt. If purchased direct, bury them.
