I didn't. And I will not.

I assume they are about 2 $ (or Euro) each and the seller is trying out how much people are willing to pay for...

Further, I assume there is a pin inside the cuff which keeps the teeth in place. Once closed there is no possibility to unlock them even without hand. So you always have to keep them open, like usual disposable cuffs.

And I hate black and plastic handcuffs! Therefore I have no ASP cuffs. And I removed the black covers from my Hiatt rigid and rigid hinged handcuffs ("ultimate" and "speedcuff").

Hi all,

I also received my pair yesterday. Surely they are nice to have along with all the plastic cuffs that piled up here over the years, but I cannot really see a market for them.

On the officers belt they take as much space as a "usual" set of handcuffs, they weigh only a little less than a set of lightweight metal handcuffs, which could be used thousands of times. Surely sooner or later they will accidentally overtighten due to their construction.

We will see how long they will be around.

Hi Ian,

that sounds like quite a good idea, when you think about situations where paramedics and EMTs have to deal with intoxicated persons and especially their body fluids, vomit etc. Here one rather would dispose the cuff after use than clean it.

The cuff surely would do a good job, the only problem that might occur is the accidental overtightening.

If the person is in an ambulance or hospital, then they can be offered pain relief.

if their drunk, then they wouldn't realise the cuff was over tighten on purpose.LOL

The cuffs arrived, so I'm ready to give some quick feedback.

They are actually quite nice; compared to other disposable cuffs they fit pretty well, so there is less chance of the perp wiggling out of them. So I'd say they're basically safer than flexcuffs.

With the teeth of the bow being on the inside, it's a lot harder to shim them. I'm actually not sure how I'll unlock one side I've tried out. Maybe drilling a hole in the right place and using a file to insert a key might turn them into reusable cuffs, like the key cuff. There is only one tooth, but it keeps the bow firmly in position.

I don't know what the manufacturer's price for these is; if it's within $2-3, it's not a bad alternative. It's a pretty good idea to put the double bow on the outside, less chance for injury or nerve damage. I would not recommend them for ambulance or hospital use, because they would need to be cut for every time the patient is moved to another cot, thus rendering the restraint useless.

I received mine last week.
I noticed a feature that I believe is unique to handcuffs.
It is the small hole in the sides of the cuff and the associated dimples on the bows.
When set with the bow pulled back as far as it can, the dimples align themselves with the hole and lock the bows in place. This is used of course to minimize accidental locking.

This concept probably can't be used in metal cuffs but a spring loaded ball bearing might be a good feature to use to pre-load the bow on regular cuffs.

As far as I know, Hiatts are the only cuffs manufactured and designed to pre-load the cuff to have them armed for use. They do this by cutting the last ratchet tooth down so that it holds the bow in place.

While this design seems to work pretty well, a spring loaded ball bearing might be used as well in a new model cuff.

Other than that, I think these plastic cuffs will work great in a large civil protest or riot situation where a command center can issue these out to the troops as an alternative to large quantities of real cuffs. Zip tie cuffs work well too, but maybe a prisoner could use a concealed knife blade to cut the zip tie easier than they could with these.

Just returned from meeting with Dan, he bought along two sets of these cuffs and we examined them in detail. As has previously been pointed out they do not double lock and are not swing through.
They lock with a VERY strong plastic lug and with the teeth on the bow facing the wrist makes inserting any type of shim difficult. So with the cuffs not on our wrists we closed them one notch, could not shim them from the top so tried from the bottom (the bow is very flexible and we could easily see the locking lug). The outcome was they closed two more notches!! In the end it required both of us to open them, one shim from the top and another from the bottom and we managed to move the bow one notch at a time. I would like to know what shims you are using Tom but can not agree with you that they open easily!
We believe if the cuffs are fully closed apart from drilling them they would need to be cut off - or you could use a lighter and melt them off!

To those that obtained a pair... Is the "sheath" that protects the aircraft cable fairly rigid? ...or of a nature that would prevent bunching it up or tearing it off?

My eyes tell me that if TWO or more people are restrained with these, each wearer will also be in posession of a "cable saw".
