Houdini's Bell

Right now I'm reading the autobiography of Henry Morgan who is perhaps best known for being on television game shows in the '50s, but who had an extensive career in radio in the '30s-'40s. He mentions just in passing an incident which took place in the late '40s, when he was invited to view a bell collection. I'll just copy the entire, short passage;


"The little old son-of-a-gun had three thousand (3,000) goddam bells, too. One that I wanted to steal was a seamless iron globe the size of a baseball. When you jiggled it, a pretty bell rang inside. It had belonged to Houdini."


If Houdini had a bell collection I was unaware of it. Nor do I know if the bell in question could have been a prop of his act. I just thought I would pass on this information in case anybody was interested.

The way I am reading the text, makes me think that the collection of bells was someone else's and the bell in question was Houdini's.

I have never heard of Harry with a bell collection.

Sounds like a chinese meditation ball, which usually were smaller and come in pairs.
