Here's where I'm perplexed as of late. About a month ago a Phelps came up on eBay for a buy it now of $350 which I was lucky enough to get. However the seller put a hold on the package claiming he sent the wrong one and then refunded me my money and posted it back up for sale. The details that Ie gotten is that he recieved multiple offers to post a buy-it-now price and after shipping it out some collector sent him an email saying they were worth in the neighborhood of $2k. So thanks to that collector and those who talked him into listing it at a lower price I missed out on adding that piece to my collection all together. I went as far as offering $1000 to the seller explaining that condition wasn't the best and that it had no key so for all I knew they were wall hangers which certainly detracts from the end value. Still no luck.

Now there are these and as far as the seller knows they are the same as a pair of darbies or a pair of Ian's which are quite close to the real deal. I was the high bidder at the time the auction ended and knew they were gonna get relisted because the seller sent me an email stating that he was ending the auction...again to due requests that it be posted at a buy it now price. I was speaking to another collector asking his opinions on the deal and the proper etiquette of such. In that time I purchased it as it came up on buy it now. Not sure who all made offers and personally I don't mind. If someone got a piece for $50 then I'll pat them on the back and be stoked for them. I did that early on in my collecting and learned that it was strongly frowned upon. In this instance I sent the seller significantly more money than what he was asking ($160) and hopefully at the end of the day we will both be happy. Ill be much happier when/if they show up at my door.

To clarify, yes I was lucky enough to get them (actually my wife technically got them) but I did pay well more than the $160. I state that in hopes that someone doesn't go behind my back and he revokes our deal even if that's not their intention.

I'm sure they will show up at your door but this time I lost out I made the deal happen and u beat me to it and that's ok but I understand how u got beat the first time ..totally different situation . I made this deal and just had bad luck with my phone maybe you'll do rite to a fellow collector and make rite and offer me my original deal but probably not .so I'm back where u were with the phelps just think how I must feel. You also have an awesome collection .this would have been huge for me I've bought handcuffs from u in the past not sure if u remember me but they were 2 bean cuffs off ebay. But it's all good anyway

Now that you clarified, indeed I remember who you are. Certainly not implying that this is like the Phelps that was a just a horrible deal from many different directions and from the beginning I was out of the loop. Shoot me an email (just click on the blue name) and I'll elaborate on a few things from the cuff, it's history, value and perhaps some of the unwritten rules in collecting.

Josh u portray your self on this site as being so diplomat I don't care about the loss u can have them but don't pull your smoke and mirrors story about the phelps this was nothing like this deal you did not pay a lot for these cuffs and come on don't put it on your wife. Just man up u bought them and I'm stoked u got a great deal. Mayby in the future ill shove it your ass . How's that for unwritten rules in collecting and I don't need to email u just do me a favor and write all the rules on this forum because I know a lot of collectors and if they called me I would have honered there deal but for some people handcuffs become an addiction mayby u need HA. But enjoy the cuffs it was meant to be for u I'm always on the lookout for the next best deal .

Don't lose your cool and get childish. I assure you being diplomatic is not my strong point but I try to be respectful most of the time. Search the past threads I'm not trying any smoke and mirrors and if I have something to say I'll say it. Many times my posts get removed when I'm not so diplomatic as you say. I'm not jumping your ass nor would I care if you won it. You have no idea what I ended up paying for the cuff or exactly why I paid more than his asking price. I told you to email you to give you pointers just as 5 years ago I recieved those same pointers. I was also equally if not more pissed off about hearing those suggestions as you are now.

In a private email I was going to tell you how much your fellow collectors hate hearing that someone offered a buy it now price and got it. Many feel that they are cheated and got screwed particularly those who were ready to bid top dollar to add that piece to their collection. I'm not personally one of those collectors that gives a shit but would've explained how dumb it is to post that you did so on the forum. You can call me out and get as pissed as you want, my reputation will stand on its own. I was simply going to offer you advice and give you a contact that if in the future you come by say a kimball and the guy is asking $1000 you had someone to ask its value and have no worries.

P.S. my wife buying it was an inside joke

I'm not mad about your buy ,just don't try to bullshit me thats what pisses me off I'm fully aware collectors hate that "but it now offer "but you also admitted you did it with the phelps and it backfired ...pretty dumb yourself .And please stop with the bullshit I know exactly what u paid for these cuffs . I didn't offer a price on the Phelps...I bought the Phelps when it was LISTED as a buy-it-now. I never sent an email prior, get that clear first off.
I can't tell if you're that ignorant or that arrogant. If you were aware of the reputation that those who offer lowball prices to sellers have...then why we're you dumb enough to post that you did so? Also if you know what I paid for the cuff then what is it that you were asking earlier? Are you saying that I should allow you the cuff for the price that I paid since you brokered the deal and obviously just had some piss poor timing with your phone? I'm certainly never going to take a significant loss based on your shitty phone service.

In regards to my reputation and how this thread is supposedly going to hurt it...I'm not the least bit worried. I don't think anyone is going to confuse me as one who will do my best to get something for cheap and not willing to pay the going rate...not exactly what I'm known for. You're partially correct though...I do my best to go out of my way to keep courteous to most and try to be known as one of the nice guys in the community. You may call that smoke and mirrors and that's your prerogative. You can do the whole "I'm trying to keep it real" shtick and I'll do my thing.

P.S. If you think they are worth a million dollars I'll give you one heck of a deal on them.

Here's a thought, assume most sellers aren't totally stupid and if they'd wanted a buy-it-now, they'd have put one.

On the rare occassions I auction something, I routinely get PM's with something like, "no buy-it-now?" Do you see one?

accept it ? This is Why your theory makes no sense to me Under certain circumstances I'm sure you would accept a buy it now.

Let's recap,

So one weasel lost out on an item because of bad cell phone service.

And the weasel with better phone service got the goods.

The last time I checked, you have to log in and access the contact seller page.

This gives the member access to the sellers contact info including phone number.

Are members of this forum so desperate to acquire rare handcuffs that they will call up a seller to see

if they can weasel them away at a lowball buy it now price?

Another sad sad day for true collectors.

Not that I embellish prolonging this or trying to defend myself. However let me clarify a few details and then say what you must. I was high bidder at the end of the auction, then I recieved a message stating that the auction was being cancelled and he would be posting it at a set price upon several requests. At that point I sat here refreshing my page every .0005 seconds or so. When it popped up I bought it as fast as my fingers could go. I then sent the seller the $160 in one transaction followed by an additonal sum of money stating that it was undervalued. Furthermore I have agreed to extra funds owed should the cuff arrive and arrive as described. At no point have I contacted the seller via phone call but I did purchase the item on my phone using the EBay mobile app. Yes I did get a good price on the item but I also have gone out of my way to square up with him so that he's not totally ripped off either by a collector or his own mistake of listing it as such. Not to save face with Mike, anon posters or anyone else on this forum but because the guy has been more than a gentleman and deserves as much (I guess that's the diplomat in me) He is more than happy with the profit he made on the item and I'm more than happy to have this in my collection.

hmm, according to the first auction it was ended by the seller with two bids.

The two 2 bids were placed approximately 1 minute apart.

The auction was canceled a little over an hour after the two 2 bids were placed.

The time elapsed between when the seller ended the auction and when the buy it now price was met is appoximately 6 minutes

You bought it on a buy it now approximately 8 minutes after the seller ended the auction and re-listed it with a buy it now price of $160.00.

So what you are saying is that this other person contacted the seller to end the auction early and that because his phone messed up

you were then able to end the auction with the buy it now price of $160.00?

Did you let the seller know that the ER handcuffs are worth about $6,000.00?

I appreciate that you are so infatuated with me and my cuff to look that deep into it. I'm a bit surprised as the time between the auction ended and when I bought it I would've guessed was less than five minutes. What I know is that the seller stated that he was placing it at set price and ending the auction. Between when I read that and started refreshing my screen watching for it had to be but a minute or two before I purchased it. Whether or not Mike's phone died or how long he had been working on the deal I have no idea. What I do know is that at the very least there we're 3 collectors refreshing their screens and watching for it. Myslef, Mike, and the collector to whom I was talking. As it turns out I clicked first, yay for this guy.

Not sure what your implication is....Mike made a deal with the collector at a steal of a price. The buy-it-now was obviously meant for him as he openly admits and apparently he had some technical difficulty that made me the benefactor. If it wouldnt have been me or Mike it wouldve been the other collector I was speaking to and if it wasn't him it would've been someone else watching on eBay. I tell you what though anon since you have put a value of THAT on them then please feel free to not be a coward and post your name, and fork over $6000 and everyone will be happy.

I will not elaborate any further beyond this post as I've been more than forthcoming on the details publicly of which I absolutley did not and likely should not have done. I think Mike sounded like an ass earlier and made a bad decision posting it publicly (obviously I have done the exact same) but at least he has the balls to say it and he's not trolling under anon postings. In the end I have the cuffs and I have certainly paid top dollar for most of the pieces in my collection so if I got one deal and you have a problem with it...you can kiss my ass. This is the last I'll post on this thread so now I'll grab some popcorn too, sit back and watch the fools entertain me but I'll do so with an ER in the other hand.

In the initial back n forth you had with the OP you injected info about some Phelps cuffs.

Usually when someone does that it's to deflect from the subject at hand.

I was just asking questions to get a clearer picture of just what happened.

In this day it is wise to keep an anon profile on the internet.

your constant attack on anon posters makes you look small in my opinion.

Apparently I read your post with negative connotations and thought it was another false implication. My apolgies, I've been on the defensive over the subject after I thought it was a "good idea" to further explain the situation...yet again wrong. In regards to the anon postings 7 out of 10 times it's someone trolling. I understand the principal of not using your name on the Internet for everyone to see. That's why alot of sites make you at least have a username and your personal info is only registered with the site owner. I feel that would dramatically cut out the negative posts made or at least make an individual accountable. So when someone says something out of line (hence my last post) he has to stand by that. No problem admitting I'm the ass in this instance although my general stance on the subject remains sour grapes.

Anytime I've ever gotten one of those offers, it's usually been for much lower than the item is worth. If someone did offer twice the value, then I might consider it, but with me it's always been someone looking to get something fairly cheap before the bidding starts.
