Adams Cuffs What Year?

I have a pair of Adams cuffs which uses a heavy steel spring that retracts to disengage the bow of the cuff.
The patent date is April [no year]
All the patent books I own show a lever mechanism:
- Dick Norman-Modern Handcuff secretes for Magicians
- Carl A. Roper-Handcuffs, U.S. Vol. 1
- Ian McColl-Handcuff Patents
Can anyone tell me what year these cuffs are.

Adams patent is June 17, 1862 as seen in Modern Handcuff Secrets, etc.

Thanks to Stan Willis’ CD I found part of my answer,
My Adams cuffs don’t read “PATENT APR”
They read “PATENT APPLIED FOR”
