Single lock handcuffs

Rivolier makes since decades high security handcuffs,
which dubble lock with a secondary key (thumbler lock is added, primary key is a barrel type).
Since recent they produce also a single lock version,
and a dubble lock version which uses only one key (only the barrel type).
What is the sense of a single lock version?
Is this not an outdated concept?

Rivolier were producing the single lock handcuffs at least since we founded www.Cuffsland.com (in 2003), so it's no new product. However I think that it is simply a matter of money - the single lock cuffs are cheaper, of course.

But ... Handcuffs with double locks have a detent which when engaged stops the cuff from ratcheting tighter to prevent the wearer from tightening them. Single lock doesn't and can be a risk to overtighten the wrists (stop the blood circulation to the hands).

Money, in this case a few euro's, couldn't be a great argument after my opinion.
Police officers should after my opinion never use the single lock version.
In the NIJ Standard-0307.01 the double lock is required (source http://www.blacksteel.com/NIJ_Standard-0307.01.html).

Maybe these single lock cuffs are produced for export. I think that third world countries rather look at the price than at security and comfort.

When I was working, I never double locked, on initial hook-up. No one over-tightened them even if sitting. The times we double locked cuffs were for transports, after initial processing.
