A new book on restraints.

Hi all,

In just a few weeks, Belgium fellow collector Jean-Michel Robin will get the third volume ready from the print shop.

The third volume, on 238 pages, will cover mostly European restraints. As for his two previous books, only 80 copies will
be printed.

For those that got some books from me last fall, I would be happy to buy a bunch of the new books from Lars (if it is agreeable and the numbers work).

Then once I receive them, send them off to you.

I assume sending 6 or so books would cost less in postage than 6 books sent separately from Europe.

I would of course not want to make this a profit deal so shipping from Europe and then to you would need to be calculated.

Lars, If possible, can you take one of the volumes you already have to your post office to see how much 1 book would cost to ship to the States and get a figure for 6 books in 1 package?

A Euro/dollar conversion would also need to be factored in too.

I hope that this will save you guys some $$$.

I'm sure Jean-Michel will be able to make a package of several books to get a better shipping rate.
As the books will be sent directly from Belgium I'm not able to tell much about the shipping cost
but I'm sure Jean-Michael will find out a good shipping rate once the books are printed.

Mark me for one! We'll check among the guys here around Munich who wants one, then we can save li'l bit on shipping. I'd be willing to act as the middleman.

There is a lot of information in these books; I'm sure if someone translated them into English, they'd be even better. My French is rather poor, but using Google translate and then finishing the translation up a little bit, I guess I could do it. I would just need the original document.

@Nils; if you can be a hub in the Munich area, you all will save some money on shipping. I agree, there is lots of interesting information in the books but you need to understand French. The book is good even without knowing French as there are many great photos of rare restraints.

@Joe; I'm sure you can get your book in the batch sent to Mark.

There will be a few weeks more until the books are printed but I will keep you updated.

I can't tell what the price will be as I'm just a contributor to the book but the last issue (2012)
was 38 euro and you probably can expect a price in about the same level. The first volume was 44 euro.

As for the first two volumes, only 80 copies are printed. Due to higher printing costs,
this edition is 46 euro +shipping.

Thank you Lars for contributing to this new edition and for gathering up the info that will aid me in ordering some books for the fellow U.S. collectors.

Assuming that Vol. 1 and 2 are still available, those that wish to acquire them can do so with this order.

The price of Vol. 3 works out to be about 50 euros. This INCLUDES shipping from Belgium to the U.S. Shipping from me to you is NOT. Special 4th Class book rate or priority mail are options.

I have not converted the euro to dollar fees yet, but figure that each book will cost about $75.00 with everything factored in. The actual amount will be known shortly.

When I finalize the order, I will certainly ask if the previous volumns are available for you.
As of 9 months ago, I brought back Vol. 1 and 2 for those that responded to me AND paid for the books before I left for Holland.
I feel that it is safe to say that there are a few books left and the author does show some of the nicest cuffs that Europe has to offer.

It's a great book indeed!

But I am wondering about the Stotz leg irons picture. The Stotz leg irons in Jean-Michel's book are in my opinion a modern replica (maybe made by Ian McColl), because of the overall appearance and most of all because of the total round dumps in the bows. Unfortunately my French is almost non existent, but my wife did not find a remark concerning replica in the text. Does anybody have further information about this restraint?

Hi Guenter,

The photo made me confused as well as these leg irons differ in many details from the photos I've seen of your
and Mark Lyons' sets. As I don't have them in my collection, I wasn't able to compare.

Jean-Michel must have confused the photo of your set but the question is what are the leg irons on the photo?
I've never seen this version before and I've never heard of any copies of Stotz leg irons. I only know Ian
made great copies of the handcuffs. Ian's handcuffs are very close to the original, in opposite to these.

I certainly hope this is not another copy from Pakistan brought to the market... One detail that makes me think they
actually are made in Pakistan is that they are very shiny - just like all cuffs made by KUB and Victor Works. Let's
hope I'm wrong!!

Ian, please help us to shed some light over this. Did you ever make any copies of the Stotz leg irons?
